Didn't think they still had paras in Canada but I see it's only company strength.
As for the drop, it certainly looks like a complete eff up with everyone going into the trees. The DZ was small enough as it was. Looks like someone got the wind direction completely wrong. Slapped wrists all round, luckily no snapped ankles.
I'm glad to say I never got it that wrong, :o :airplane: oh yes there was the time someone ended up landing halfway up a mountain. But there were no trees and anyway as I pointed out, half a mile in the other direction and he'd have ended up in the sea. He still wasn't happy. :rofl

Pretty low stress tree landing. I bounced off every limp from the top to ground level it seemed like. Pretty much verbatim on the comments however. :D

CPXX you're correct in one way, the dedicated Para unit, the Canadian Airborne Regiment, similar the Brit Parachute Regiment, was disbanded after the whole Somalia scandal here. My best friend growing up, Capt Rob Semrau (author of The Taliban Don't Wave) actually joined the British army first back in 1994 because of this, he wanted to be a paratrooper so badly, and we didn't have paras any longer when he got in, so he served in 2 Para until 2005 before becoming an Officer in the Canadian RCR Regiment.
Every Canadian infantry regiment now (reg forces) has a jump company, 3rd Battalion PPCLI has one, as does the RCRs, and I think the Frenchies 22nd does as well, but I'm not certain. There is one reserve airborne company around someplace as well too I think, but there is no longer a dedicated "Airborne" regiment or battalion around any more. Our Special operations Regiment I suppose could qualify, but they are pretty similar to the 75th Rangers in terms of taskings and capabilities, more alike the US Ranger units than say the 101st guys. They have talked about bringing back the Airborne Regiment recently in our defense dept, be nice to see.
Great video, it looks like a poor drop in terms of getting the guys over the landing zone, if you look at that stick, virtually every chute was heading for the woods. Funny hearing that "oh ----!", then the relief laughter of not getting screwed up too badly in the trees.

Yes it's a pity about the disbandment. Hopefully the regiment will come back in some form. Seemed a bit of an overreaction to disband the whole regiment at the time. The British paras got themselves a tough reputation too at times for certain actions over the years. But their value is recognised in Britain.
We don't have paras in the Irish army either but of course the special forces guys are trained plus there are selected courses. A friend of mine is a reservist and an experienced skydiver, in his day job he drives a garbage truck. He is one of the Instructors. I mention him because he was the guy I dropped him and his tandem on the side of the hill.

I hit a rugby post crossbar on Mona airfield. As instructed I turned in at the last second to impact with thigh/buttocks.
Couldn't walk properly for a week and was blue and purple down my whole right leg :bhead
I also had a partial inflation, panicked and pulled reserve, got a bit tangled up with the main which then opened fully and had me floating around for what seemed like eternity, PJI on the deck was screaming insults at me the whole time :lol
