Title: Internet Providers
Post by: Banshee7 on June 24, 2014, 11:13:14 PM
Hey guys,

AT&T is about to lose a DSL customer because they...well they suck.  I've been getting disco'd a lot lately (to the point tonight where I couldn't stay in arena for more than 30 seconds).  I've reset the modem, but that didn't help.  So, I'm asking for opinions on Internet providers--what's good and what's not.

Try a different modem before ditching the service. Modems go bad with time. I know from experience that switching providers can make you go from bad to worse and big time.

concur

I'm not a fan of AT&T but they did have the best service once I got all the bugs worked out of my old place

Banshee, have you recently upgraded to Uverse internet? If you have, and they didn't upgrade the line from outside to your phone jack with Cat5 or better, you will get discoes. It happened to me, through 3 techs, 2 new modems and a "Your signal is fine". The 4th, a senior, knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it at no cost to me. They don't tell you that it HAS to have cat5 to work correctly.

My parents switched providers a few weeks ago. Their speed dropped from 8 to 2Mbit and even that was flaky. After multiple repair attempts they finally managed to restore the speed and bump it to 15Mbit. They had to disconnect the secondary phone line that went upstairs, while it was connected the line had too much dampening. ADSL is sensitive to all sorts of stuff, the problem cause might be in your house in the end.

I have a direct line from the provider copper to my modem just to be sure.

With all the tornado damage it's a wonder you have internet at all.

Does your PING to Texas show the trouble at your computer or is it somewhere else along the line?
