Title: Film player seems to be not working?

Windows 8.1
It seems to work OK on very short films but anything longer than about 30 seconds and the cursor spins and the player controls (start/stop/rewind/etc) flash. The message at the bottom of the window says "loading xxxx..." but it never works and I have to force-quit out of it.
