Title: Bf109K-4 errors??
Post by: MiloMorai on July 13, 2014, 01:10:54 PM
http://www.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Bf_109K-4

the standardization included:

- aerodynamic improvements, the bulges on the cowling disappeared

The bulges were still there, just faired better.

- improved landing gear with bigger wheels

- fully retractable, longer tail-wheel for better airflow in T/O and better sight when taxiing

- new tail unit with rudder trim tabs

The taller tail was used on late production G-6, 14s.

- improved DB 605 engine

- blind flying instruments

- stronger armament

The MK108 had been used since the G-6.

- "Erla Haube" canopy for better vision

The "Erla Haube" canopy and Galland armour had been fitted since the G-6.

I believe a more important issue is does the *game* reflect these things, for instance the G6 in game does not have the Mk 108 as an option IIRC.

Correct but our G6 is an early version and thus was not equiped with the Mk108.

I would love to see a later G6 with an AS motor and 30mm hub option.  But thats off topic.

G6 used to have the 30mm; it was removed at about the time the G14 was introduced.  My sense has been that this was to fill the 1943-early '44 gap, so that for scenarios, AvA &c. you'd necessarily have a representative G6.  Otherwise everyone would pick the 30mm version (I know I miss it!).

If you are not buff-hunting, most cartoon-pilots benefits from the 20mm in terms of hit probability at range, extra bullets, and less weight.

We have the early  G6 with extra nothing ( except the Erla Haube, and Wgr21 for some strange reasons (probably to bait some idi.. er brave pilot to fly it  ;) )

Heinz Knoke's book indicates they got gondolas after introducing the G6, and the Wgr21 later in the war.

Perhaps MiroMorai have data when the R6 and WGR21 where introduced for the 109G6 squadrons ?

Max takeoff weight was 3,398 kilo, not that heavy if you compare with the American later war monsters.

Gondolwaffen was initially introduced with the 109F. Here's a 109G-2/R6 with gondolas:

I'm aware of the G2 gunboats, but it looks like they added the gondolas on the G6 for some squads after the planes where delivered.
One more thing , looks like early G6's where not cleared for higher than 1.3 ATA at start,
effectively making our machine a mid-G6.

It's just a field kit. If the Geschwader had the gondolas in their inventory they could be mounted on any 109G at the Geschwader workshops.

I understand that you have your personal traumas but it would be easier to take you seriously if you would have a glue. Think about the definition of a bulge and what is called a fuselage.

What kind of glue would that be? Elmers, Lepages, Gorilla, Titebond........

That may well be the case, but in general terms I wouldn't trust I Flew For the Fuehrer for historical accuracy, as in have a second or third source before you believe it.

In Aces High they disappear:

Retractable gun bulges.  Who knew the Germans were so ingenious!?!   :D
