Title: Map question?
Post by: wetcat on July 21, 2014, 10:29:43 AM

I have noticed some odd lines on the map, shown by the yellow arrows. Most fields have them, some are dotted (like the one SW of A16, others are solid. Some are L-shaped, some straight, some U-shaped.

I suspect that they give info on the runways at those airfields, but I am not sure. None of the training aids mention them. Also, the dotted one off by itself is odd.

Does anyone know what they are? They seem map-specific; the other players in my squad said that they did not see them on the last map rotation.

Those lines you are seeing are integrated into the clipboard map bitmap.  They have no meaning, I am aware of.

Haven't by chance flown out to their location on the map and looked around, have ya?

They use to show the location of the supply lines for the closest field or strat.  Vehicle convoys for bases and train tracks for the strats.  This map was recently updated however, particularly the strats, so I can only guess if they are all current and accurate, but one would need to verify.

Looking at the map, I'm guessing solid is road and dotted is rail.

I'm guessing Roy didn't conceive (nor has achieved) any of the supply/train busting achievements, except perhaps by chance?  :aok

A truly excellent (and common-sense) suggestion. I went out to do that...and discovered that the map had changed. No more odd lines. I guess I will have to wait until it rotates back, as I'm sure it will do...

You can load the terrain for offline play to check it out.

The person who creates a terrain also creates the clipboard map. They can choose the color palette, terrain topography details, detailed grid lines, etc. They can also add, as has been stated, supply lines (roads/tracks) to each base/strat. It's not dynamic; it's a static image that can be created in Photoshop. The game overlays the actual bases, strats, radar, etc. on top of the static graphic that is the clipboard map.

The big problem with marking the supply lines, as has also been mentioned, is if objects get moved those markings no longer mean anything.
