:airplane: This has been a pet peeve of mine ever since I joined the game! Let the auto ack guns, not be able to separate "friend from Foe"! This a crock the way it is now, a guy being able to hide in the ack, instead of standing fighting. The danger to any aircraft in the game should be same, except for manned guns! Then its up to him to separate the friendly from foe.
If you don't want to get shot down by friendly fire, stay to heck out of the Ack!!!

How would that work though? Going by that logic, the second I take off I am deemed an enemy? If I am coming in for a landing or just flying over the base looking (for example) for enemy tanks, and my own ack starts shooting at me? Even if you put altitude limits on that, it could be abused, akin to that of the naval auto 5in, peak to 3,001 ft and BAM you have been found, go to 2,999 ft and 'poof' gone. Interesting concept though, but I am unsure of how it could be implemented in a way that the auto ack wouldn't just slaughter every moving thing.

I just can not agree on this one. Almost every ack hugger I have seen is there because he or she is out numbered or vulchers are shooting everything as they takeoff. Using ack to your advantage is no different than a K model climbing straight up. You avoid the fight till you have a better position.

That should be fun... every plane would be shot down at landing

It's fine the way it is. Puffy on the other hand I think should be player controlled only

This morning, a squaddie and I flew to an enemy medium airfield.
We successfully destroyed the ack in the town and airbase.
I don't know what my squaddie flew, I took a Jug with two 100 pound bombs and 10 rockets.
I do know that a couple of P-51's with the 100 pound bomb and 6 rocket package can easily destroy all ack on a small airfield because we've done it before.
-
3-4 passes in a F8 can kill all ack on small airfield alone.
-
auto ack already hurts friendlies if they get in the way..
if you want to stop ack hugging, you have 2 simple solutions already in game.. let them get out of their ack, or de-ack their field.
now as a field gun enthusiast, I constantly see greedy vulchers ignore those 2 solutions.

I can do it in 2-3 passes. :D

nothing more fun that to kill an ack hugger while the ack is fully up. it's all about timing and luck. well mostly luck in my case.

POTW has always headed to a field and De-acked as our knock on the door to start a fight. We can't get Waystin to stop going to a field ahead of us in his YakT to de-ack. Field size does not matter to him. A few of us with rockets along with Waystin in his custom ack [T]errorizer, and even a large field and it's town is de-acked inside of 3 minutes.
This new Fester map is the first time I've seen knights worked up enough to de-ack airfields so they can furball. Eventually it gets back to the same Ol same Ol of waiting for the super secret technique ACM high alt bish\rook hero's from the next field over to come down and fight.
At least the knights are not hiding in any ack waiting for them to come down and play at that point. If the knights forget to kill the VH. It becomes alt hero's and a wirbel hoard on the field to furball with. I miss the really old days when no one flew much above 10k to go to a simple furball.

that's not what he's saying. What earl is pointing out is that if an enemy aircraft is flying in or near an airfield or town and a friendly aircraft is flying in or near the same airfield rounds that were shot at the enemy aircraft might impact the friendly aircraft if that friendly aircraft happens to fly in the path of the AAA fire. Which right now doesn't happen.

It does happen. You can be hit by friendly AAA.

I lost quite a number of planes, including jets and rocket planes, to both friedly puffy and friendly field ack. Though the latter one has fortunately the tendency to only damage you.

:airplane: Correct! What I should have said at the beginning of this thread, forgive a 80 year mind, I meant to say the town ack, not the field ack!

In that case: BOINGGGG - wish already granted :)
