Just got a new pair of skechers relaxed fit sneakers to work in, they didnt really do as well as I wanted or thought they would.. I stand nearly 8 hours a day on a concrete pad. Lots of walking, typically 12 to 14000 steps every day M-F. I typically use an extra comfort insole as well.
I dont need boots or steel toes, as im not in that type of environment, easy to wipe clean would a good bonus.
Any suggestions?

get you a pair of asics gels.
-
when I was in that environment I started with a pair of asics with Dr Scholls insoles. Having spent the last 20 years at a desk it took me about four weeks of serious pain in my feet to get used to it. The problem was that the shoes fell apart after a few months. So I invested in a pair of Reebock combat boots and the difference was amazing. Granted I still used the insoles but the extra support on my ankles really helped. Took a while to break them in so I'd take my sneakers to work to switch out to when they got uncomfortable but once they did it was like a new skin
-
Nearly the same thing happened to me.
I worked at a desk for 8 years and in 2012 I started working on my feet. Like you it was excruciating pain, but I managed to survive with some help from insoles and comfortable sneakers, Avias. My problem isn't wearing them out, it's more of getting them dirty with paint and gunk. A lot of those sneaker type shoes are suede or nylon/poly and they just gunk up.

epsom salts in hot water helped my feet to get through the pain. Julie can tell you I was in freaking agony for a while and once the shine wore off the boots I didn't care anymore. Still love them though

Oh yeah. It took me a while to get used to the standing. The human body was never meant to sit 8 hours a day, I was ready to amputate after my first week.
I'm used to it now, but this switch to Skechers killed me today... :cry
I went directly to the store and bought the Dr Scholls insoles after work. :lol
-
Yeah a good pair of boots plus Dr. Scholls helped me out aswell. I don't get how crappy Sketchers are now a days. When I was a jr in HS I bought a pair and they lasted 4 years(this was in like 96) I guess they got more popular, became a 'brand' then went to pot.

Pronate or supinate? Find out and then use zappo's searcher.

I like New Balance shoes such as these types because I nearly wrecked my feet with uncushioned shoes some years ago.

They are comfortable, give some cushioning, and because they are leather and all black, you can wear them for nearly everything. (I even wear them with suits because dress shoes nearly immediately cause my foot problems to come back.)
-
It really depends on your gait and how flat or unflat your foot is. A Shoe that's comfortable for one person will be uncomfortable for another. I know that my feet are on the flat side so I know that I have a pronate gait. So when looking for shoes I look for shoes that come in wide, and are designed for pronators. If you want comfortable foot gear you need to know what kind of foot you have.

I used the dr scholls machine at walmart and then went home and soaked them in bleach. .. lol ;)
Thanks for the info brooke and floob

Also, I buy them from zappos.com, as they have seemingly every shoe made my man. The ones above are New Balance MX623's.

you should take something like aleve or tylenol. along with some dr schools or the store generic brand. they're just as good.

Sorry to hear that, Krabs. What is your foot malady?
My Dad had plantar fasciitis and got over it, so I can pass along some suggestions for that.

superfeet footbeds
or
sole insoles dean karnazes
I have and use both depending on what I'm doing. A different world :aok
Also there is a brand named MBT, very expensive in the short, well worth it in the long.

I have tried many including New Balance which were inexpensive but did not last long. In my line of work I need oil resistant soles. Summer I like a low top and winter the mid height boot. I can't wear steel toes as it bothers my large toes and need to conform the leather to my feet.
Had some real good boots FedEx employees wear but can't find them now. :( From Federal Footwear I think.

I work in an office so the shoes I would recommend aren't for you....but anyone with feet issues who also works in an office should seriously consider a brand of dress shoes called "Bostonian"
I tried these a few years back after a doctor dug out a plantar wart from the bottom of my foot. The wound ended up infected.
I won't buy any other shoes now....it is like walking on a cloud. A soft fluffy cloud. :)

Surprisingly I would also recommend New Balance shoes, I wear them exclusively while standing and trapshooting all day. They seem to be the most comfortable brand for long days on your feet that I've found (that don't cost an arm and a leg)...
-
It's not the shoes (for the most part) guys. Even the most expensive shoes come with garbage inserts. MBT is the only one I've found with quality inserts/insoles.
Footbeds and SuperFeet, Sole, etc. brands make a huge difference if you already have problems. They are an orthotic, a podiatrist could make you an even better one if you want to go to that length.
First thing I do with any new shoe, rip out the garbage insert...
Btw, custom footbeds will feel good from the outset, but SuperFeet may take some time to get used to, just like sitting up straight does after years of slouching...

Nefari, I work a 12 hour shift and do most of that walking and standing on various surfaces. I wear Magnum Stealth Force boots at work, they are extremely comfortable if you are going to be on your feet for long periods of time. I get all sorts of junk on my boots and they wipe off easily (though mostly it is vomit, blood and other uninteresting bodily fluids).

Went back to the old Avias and added the new DR Scholls inserts into them on top of the old insole lol.
Looking at new shoes again.

It's not surprising that I have tender footsies.
I've had the best luck with Merrell shoes. Around the house...a Bypass moccasin. Around town...a Mountain moc. Around the ranch...a hiking boot. They are a little pricey but I've never had to augment them with third-party insoles. Great arch support and very light.

I'd second this Docs have aircushion soles that can really save the feet.
The advice to have your feet looked at is good,I have servere pronation and must wear corrective inserts.I've always had difficulties with shoes but I own a pair of Docs and merrels also, their mocs or deck shoes have always been a fav of mine.
A good pair of shoes can be costly but they last a long time and not having sore feet at the end of the day is .....priceless!
YMMV.

4 years now and it's taking a toll on my knee/hip... Need to get out of this stupid thing before they get wrecked too...

I use Sievi work shoes myself. I also have to stand long hours when I'm training people so shoe comfort is an issue. I was looking for many shoes and then I stumbled unexpectantly to a pair of shoes that was not only comforable but cheap and had antistatic protection which is handy also at my work. http://www.sievi.com/uk

You must try Johnston and Murphy Shoes - specifically for you the "schuler" model. Great support, sheepskin insole, and nice leather. They are the most comfortable casual shoe I have worn. Not terribly expensive at about $120 a pair. I have seen them on Amazon for less than $100.
