I thought Lancasters had a single pilot.  Why does this one have duel controls?

It's obviously over modeled.

Regulations require a second pilot and controls.

It was suppose to leave yesterday but a problem with #2 engine caused a delay.

I find it amazing that they still take these historic planes to overseas flights. Seems kinda high risk.

They had an ebay auction to be a part of the crew for this journey.

Here is the listing.

I am looking forward to the pictures and movies of the two lancs together, and of course a safe return home.

A high school friend is President of Vintage Wings Canada, and flies all kinds of WB like his P51, Hurri, and a bunch of others.  A few years back with him having a look at their a/c I got to get an up close look at this Lanc, but never got to fly in her.  Still, it was great climbing around in an air worthy Lanc.  My hometown in Calgary has 2 good examples nearby, but they're static only.  My grandfathers both were involved with the Lanc in WW2, one flew them as a transit pilot, the other worked first on the radio systems, and then later the engines.  Over 400 of the BX Lancasters were built in Eastern Canada, being very similar to British built Lancs, having slightly different instrumentation, and Packard manufactured Merlins.  My paternal GF spoke at great length about these engines, and how fantastic they were.

Anyhow, it's great to see this bird making the trek to the UK, where the lions share of the actual "work" done by the Lanc was launched from.  I can't believe somebody spent 80 grand to be the crew member - good for them, the $ will go to supporting it I'm sure, far worse ways to spend that money.   Last time I visited Vintage wings, they were offering rides in many of their a/c for a couple thousand - their P51D in Canadian markings flew out West 2 years ago, and the pilot was very generous, a young 15 year old kid in the province of SK stalked them online, and made his way on his bike to see it land at the local airport, and talked the pilot's ear off about P51s.  His enthusiasm got him a free hour long ride - there is video on Facebook of this happening, I'll try and link it in another thread.

Sweet!    I'm glad they made it without incident. I had planned to go see her either for preflight or the day she left but just wasnt feeling well enough to make it.

IIRC it was either last year or the year before that when Vera lost a part in flight! I seem to recall an aileron failure and was worried she might have an issue crossing the pond.

Swoop,go see her if you can, those 4 merlins just have to be heard!

Cool flight;
I enjoyed this old beauty at many air shows in Toronto and a couple of photos i took 2 years ago ,here in Windsor, ON; they have one non-flyable in Nanton, Alberta ,I climbed inside, interesting;  Bomber Command Museum of  Canada http://www.bombercommandmuseum.ca/nlsmuseum.html

The Canadian Aviation Museum has a Lanc and a Lanc nose.

A Halifax is now being restored at the RCAF Memorial Museum at Trenton, Ontario as a tribute to the Canadians who flew Hali's. Canadians flew more Halis than Lancs.

Such great footage, I've seen a lot of amateur vids on youtube of both Lancs coming in low level, with a fighter escort with them - what I wouldn't give to be there on the ground filming myself, or better yet riding along in one of those Lancs.  Fantastic times, seeing both together.

GHI, the one in Nanton, I saw quite by accident the first time driving through, was on the main drag there, looked right, and saw an open hangar door in the city, with the tail of what for certain I thought was a bomber.  Turns out it was a Lanc, pretty amazing.  There used to be one outside of the Calgary Airport at the air museum there, you could always see it when you drove to the airport back in the 90's as there was only one route in or out back then.

I'm glad this trip happened, great footage and great sights for everyone there who got to see the 2 bombers flying together.

Finally going to get a spare minute to go and see these two this weekend.  Going down to Dunsfold (the Top Gear test track) and camp out in the beer garden of a pub somewhere.

I mentioned earlier in the thread a friend since high school is the CEO of Vintage Wings here in Canada, and works with the Lancs up here, in addition to their own fleet of WW2 birds.  I got this an hour ago, from my friend Todd Lemieux, it was taken about 3 hours ago near Nanton Alberta, where one of the other Lancs here in Canada is stored.  Notice the motors are running....dun dun dun...A good chance there may be a third flying Lanc soon.  Xbrit - fantastic, fantastic picture, 2 of my favorite heavies of all time.  Many thanks.
