I really hope the folks at Eagle can accelerate the development of new WWII rides.  I love DCS, but the details are so intricate it take forever to model a new plane.  Farming it out to third parties helps but problematic...I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that the third-party MiG21bis module will get released.

I'm also pretty excited about the F86F module:

The flight and systems modeling are great, but the AI uses the easy mode flight model, and damage model is a joke,  especially against the AI.  The planes are fun to fly, though there is no real context to fly them. If your intrested in them I would advise against paying full price and waiting till the modules go on sale.

Why is the damage model a joke? Looks very good to me.

Fire from the outer wing. Yup, a joke.

I should also add that the Dora is a 1945 model while the Pony is a mid 1944 model.

What's the difference between a 1944 Dora and a 1945 Dora?

The EZ42 which first used on Doras in Feb '45.

The Pony should be using 72" boost and also have a gyro gun sight.

The EZ 42 was never standard on any type of aircraft. Only a couple hundred sets were made during the war. 190 and 262 units used the EZ 42 in limited numbers in 1944.

No it isn't.

The Mustang is a VLR (Very Long Range) build, as it carries the twin radio antenna masts unique to the VLR. These planes were only used by units in the Pacific, while based on Iwo Jima. The 506th FG made their first VLR sorties April 7, 1945.

If it is a '45 Pony then why is it not using 150 fuel?

The 2 antenna masts have been reported as a bug.

Something like 4% of the Doras built had EZ42s at the end of '44.

I don't think any had the EZ 42 from the factory. The sights were usually delivered to the units in the field and retrofitted. The first EZ 42 were delivered to the Luftwaffe in July 1944 and less than 1000 were made in total. Mind you the EZ 42 wasn't the first German gyroscopic gun sight; the EZ 40 was in development from 1935 and saw limited use in 1942 and 1943. It was first tested on a 109F, however it was buggy and not very popular.

I agree that the DCS P-51D should have a K-14 sight. The 100/150 grade fuel I'm not so sure about.

150 fuel was cleared for use in June 1944.

UK consumption

June 1944   184,000 (25,205 tons) or 6,440,000 Igal
July 1944   283,000 (38,767 tons)
August 1944   218,000 (29,863 tons)
September 1944   169,000 (23,150 tons)
October 1944   183,000 (25,068 tons)
November 1944   140,000 (19,178 tons)
December 1944   193,000 (26,438 tons)

1 bbl =35 Igal

I know it was available, but I thought the Americans had problems with running their Ponies on 100/150. The British used 115/145 IIRC which was better quality and required less TEL additive (same as for 100/130). And while those numbers you posed are impressive on their own, they only represent about 15-20,000 sorties from an air force that flew thousands of sorties every day. What was the USAAF's consumption of 100/150?

Btw. I've read that the Pacific P-51 units didn't get 150 avgas before April 1945 and they immediately started experiencing severe engine fouling and other reliability issues.

The Brits used the same 150 fuel as did the Americans as the Brits supplied the fuel.

American bombers didn't use 150 fuel.

At cruise speed, the plugs tended to foul but opening the throttle cleared the plugs.

So those consumption figures include the USAAF as well?

8th AF was the major consumer.

UK = 8th AAF and ADGB
