Post by: Someguy63 on August 12, 2014, 03:23:14 PM: No, when I first heard he painted a black tulip on his aircraft I literally thought there was an actual flower painted on the side...but when I looked it up I see the black triangles painted by the nose and assumed that was the "tulip".

They then started letting new guys fly the aircraft to get their feet wet so to speak and allow him to fly non-descript stuff so he could still rack up kills.

Here's the lit butt I want to chuck into the rattler pile: according to wiki, he resigned in '70 over a falling out over the deployment of the f-104 Starfighter. Apparently, he found it somehow unsuitable as a "fighter". I can't imagine why ... <cough ... Super stall...> <cough ridiculously high wing loading >... Anyway, does somebody have any elaboration on this matter?
