Title: Pilot Wounds
Post by: Dicedealer on August 21, 2014, 04:50:47 PM
I have in the past, been in what I have called the pilot wound loop. It has lasted for a day or two, sometimes until a map changes. I have tried changing plane types pilot position , everything players have advised me to do but its getting really bad. I can be killed by a pilot wound by unmanned guns while in the loop ...several times in a row. It can be the first or third ping on the plane. I have even gotten a PW from someone colliding with me from the back. Is there anything I can do? Why does it seem to just be me? Even the guys Im flying with cant believe when I say another F-N Pilot wound... :cry :furious Ive complained about this in the MA so much I feel like a girl...Im not looking for sympathy here, maybe just some help and to know if it happens to anyone else as much. Thanks Dice

All I can suggest is to get with a trainer who could show you a few defensive techniques to help reduce getting shot.

Looking at your Avatar I think your head may be in the wrong place  :D

Happens to me from time to time.  I am not sure there is much you can do, if the hit is registered in your head then you are PW. :(

Removing the target from your back is a good first step to avoid being wounded.

The Avatar is the best explanation of my flying skills....If it was a plane on my 6 shooting me , or even at an angle but, its the 1 in a million shots that seem to happen 5 times in a row that makes me rant on here...Im trying to get it out here so I don't sound like a lil squeak in the game when we are using the radio tactically

My suggestion is don't flying into the bullets so much!   :P

My guess is your flying in a way that puts you in the guns of other players too much and so more pilot wounds. Either your in a furball turning and burning with out regard for SA (Situational Awareness), or your turning too soon on the merge and getting hammered, or turning too late on break turns and again getting hammered.

Post a film or two of your flying so we can see what your doing, or meet with a trainer. Morph will spot it quick and can help you out.

Most players (myself included) tend to aim at the cockpit. If they have fast-firing calibers like the 303s, 30/50cal then you will see pilot wounds quite often.  Like others have said, fly defensively, if you are unsure how to, then hook up with a trainer.

ahhhh weird pilot wound stories...this vicious cycle happens to me occasionally too. Even changed countries once to see if that would break the cycle (it didn't).

Here's one - Flying alongside a formation of lancs at about 20k alt in a 109K4. Enemy icon shows 2k distance and planning attack. Suddenly there's blood splatter on the canopy and that familiar "humph" sound. No bullet whizzing sounds or tracers, nothing.

I'm like "what the hell?" (yes I have it on film but finding it would be hard). There was only one hit sprite on film.

I bet the other player was wondering why I dove away without attacking.

I have done it...I have broken through the worst PW loop ever....after flying on and off all day, I only had 1 PW and that was after my plane was shot to pieces. Hopefully all is well for awhile. It does seem to come and go, but while your in that loop, It blows. Now ...if only I can find something else to rant about....lol
