The last nail has been driven into the coffin and the pink slips have been distrubited.
It's a sad day, especialy for the people who have tried to keep the ship afloat.
On the bright side, if there is one when people loose their source of income, is that AH is going to benifit with added subscribers, but more importantly, the talent that will come with them.
I smell some kickass scenarios in the not too distant future! :D

Yeah, this was certainly a black day for Air Warrior.... and the EA.com site has been down all morning, apparently since midnight last night when everyone was disconnected. Looks like we won't even get a chance for a final flyby.... :(
-
I have not been following the continuing saga of Airwarrior all that close since I left back in June of 2000. What happened now?

Indeed Lars and Helen. The AW web-site may be toast. The EA support page does not make references to AW anymore. Oh well. Welcome all AWers to Aces High. Pyro and Company are doing a great job.

Never thought I would see it happen..logged into AW the first time in *I think* 1989 or 1990...so many years ago...
-
Did they close their doors?
I'm guessing this might have something to do with it:

Cool
More people in the arena.

The writing was on the wall a long time ago but many held out hop regardless..
I feel real sorry for Steve 'Mage' Lackey. No matter what some people think of him I always thought he was a great guy, a real friend and he honeslty gave his heart and soul to improving AW for all the players there. <S> Steve. I wish you well.

The Nightmares came from AW. Now I wasn't one of the ones from there. I was recruited once I was here. But I know our the Nightmares at the AW side of the house must be crushed. I know if AH ever shut down I think I would literally cry. I've made lots of friends in here and couldn't bare having to go to a new game and learn all over again.
So guys if or when this does happen let's give the AW guys a warm AH welcome.
How is it a fact that AW is shutting down or is it a rumor? From what I read so far it's just a rumor.
-
Just been to the AW3-ME website .. nothing about shutdown there .. maybe a server problem ?

<Door creaks open> cough <Takes a peep in> <scans the room> <Sees Flos sitting in the corner with 1ijac passing peeled grapes>
Animal spouts off, - death to those who killed the king, off with their heads.
Where is the closest hangar of P-51s?
YA, ya I know,....we tried and tried to resuscitate the king, we beat on it's chest, we gave it a bath, we preyed for mercy, we beat on our own chest, we cursed the CODs that let it be. We believed their words to commit to breath life back into the king. Yet they could not see the forest for the trees were in the way.
The ignorance at EA.com is comparable to the NY Towers, you just can't believe the stupidity, but it's real.
<Pulls out old sack, pushes clothes into it and slings it over his shoulder> <Runs out to the P-51 hangar and sticks a knife in all the wheels on all the planes and runs to his jeep>
Bu-bye lard ass!! <Hits the accelerator drives through the front gate, and shoots the guard in the forehead>
I need to know the following things..
Where is the frig?
Where is the P-51 or A8 hangar?
And whos sheep do I steal first?

This is sad to see. AW on Genie was my first taste of online gaming in 93. I was a dedicated AW nut until my squad moved to Confirmed Kill or whatever it was called.
Later I found AH and my beloved AW squad the 13thTAS was here too!
Even though I haven't played AW for over a couple years it was a noble and fun beginning.
<S> to the concept and Taps for an old friend.

Ditto, Steve is a great guy, I also wish him well.

EA is only interested in the almighty dollar. Been that way ever since they saw how much they could make with The Sims (and the 5 expansion packs for it...) They won't keep anything now that isn't at least marginally profitable. Wouldn't be surprised to only see EA Sports games and The Sims variants (including The Sims Online) coming out of EA when all is said and done.
-
Just added this over at the EA boards, migh as well post it here.
I left AW for other shores months ago, but this is like having your first love die in a car accident. To those who brought AW to life many years ago, thanks for the ride and I hope you land well.
Those DOS days will always be remembered by me as a highpoint in my gaming hobby -- a time when the community and arena design created a sweet online world. The AOL days and Gamestorm days were certainly fun, though the Big Pac marked the beginning of the end for me. Someday, (soon perhaps) I will serial network two old computers under DOS, watch a few old films and get a buddy or two over and fly periscope warrior once again :)
Salute to former opponents, AW volunteers and those developers and staff with committment and vision. Shame on the spreadsheet-driven tools who drove it into the ground to die a whimpering death.
Charon
When I occasionally gush about HTC, it's not being a brown nose. I really do appreciate, and hope the rest of the AH community does as well, the difference between a community driven by owners who love their work, and others managed by corporate tools.
-
Ditto Charon. My sentiment 100% in regard to HTC versus a corporation.

To all the new players from Air warrior, you may not know it yet but this is for the better, HitechCreations/AcesHigh deserves you more than that "kick you in the face when your down" no good corporation (and you it).
You will have good fun here, good group of guys and gals. Fun to fly with and always a <S>! for a good fight..
Welcome!
I never got in to Air warrior my self, but i feal your pain.

EA is a horrible company. They ruin eveything they touch.
Im a avid RPG'r, been playing online RGPS for a looooong time. I got in to the first graphical MMORGP ultima online. Which was a kick bellybutton game (at the beggining), until Origin sold its self to EA. I left UO for a year before this happened, when i returned EA owned it and the whole game had gone to toejam, they corn holed it so kids could have fun playing it and there parents would keep sending them checks.. they make a million(s) $$ a month off that game.
Burn EA, drown in a pool of you own feicies.

Poop, they call you "Mr" in here?
I guess must be impotent.
<Quick question, can I say "SHIT" in here?>
-
Same thing happened at WB's. Its just a matter of time before the suits over there run it into the ground also.
WELCOME ABOARD THE AH EXPRESS MY AW FRIENDS!!
Sit back and enjoy the ride.
LLB OUT!!!!!!!!!

Not that any one seems to pay attention

Rotorian, a quick answer: Most of the guys in here try to keep a certain measure of maturity on the boards. Most of the guys here have already worked out that swearing offends a lot of people and so they avoid it. The boards are not policed by the "UBB Gestapo" so you may choose what you want to say. In the end, though, I think avoiding unnecessarily offending others is a good thing...

I'm glad to see all da old flyers coming to AH. The SkyKnights saw the writing in the skys months ago. So we started our Ops at AH. I hope that the Sqs will work together as we have in the past. <S>
-
I flew AW from the Genie days and only left it because it had been trashed so much it was not a good place to fly. I have missed many of the guys in AW and hope they show up here soon. You will feel a sense of loss, as we all did who left AW after so many years. However the AH group has done a really great job of making the best Sim around, and I felt welcome from the first day I flew in here. Many of the High Tech guys showed up in the H2H arena we setup to get started, and other players who offered to help us get going in here.
I also offer any help to the AW guys who come here you will be welcome and you will feel it.
I share in the loss of AW even now. We fight the good fight in here, in a week you will wonder why you didn't try this sooner.

I'm sorry your attention span can't handle 4 sentences in one go. Be warned, you will consider this an essay:
It's just a concept called courtesy. Try it out, you might grow to like it. If you are not familiar with the term then I suggest you look it up. This is a pretty small community and courtesy goes a long way to earning the respect of the people in here.
Trash talk doesn't make you a better online pilot, it just makes you look like an immature jerk.
Let your flying make your reputation. Grandstanding on the BBS just suggests that you don't have the ability to get noticed any other way.
Enjoy flying AH, enjoy getting to know the other people in here, trying out some courtesy will make that a bit easier.
Okay, I've rambled on enough. <S> and hope to see you on my wing if you're a rook, in my gunsight if you're not.
