Proper football, eh?

I say we take an NFL team, any of them, you guys pick one.

Put them in "proper football" (soccer) gear and make them kick that ball around against the best "proper football" team.

They'll loose, likely badly.

Take a "proper football" team, your best, ladies, and dress them out in "Real Football" gear. Make them play any "Real Football" team from the NFL. Hell, make them play any Div 1 college team in the top 100.

They (the "proper footballers") will not only loose, many of them will be in the ER. Some wheelchair bound for life. A few will be in the morgue.

That's the difference between your football and our football.

I think you are going to see a bunch of Ade's salutes.

I believe the intention was to create an argument about which sport is the "proper" football more than to discuss a soccer game all along.

Well you would be wrong if you believed that. True enough the "proper football" phrase was tongue in cheek.

Then do the same with at least similar sports. Use Aussie Rules team. Those guys hit as hard as an NFL team can but without pads. Put them in pads and you have a whole season of backup scrubs playing in the NFL whilst the starters work on their alphabet and determining family and friends names again.
Assuming of course you can get them to put the pads on in the first place.

I'll take that action 100% of the time. You wanna put Aussie rules football in pads and put them against an NFL team? or a D1 college team?

Any day of the week. Your diggers will be KIA before halftime. Sad, but true.

You can be a butthurt dumbarse and say "don't feed the troll" all you want, but if you want to look at facts vs facts, this is a no brainer.

Wanna try the NFL guys in an Aussie rules game then?

Not enough ambulances in the southern hemisphere to haul the linemen away after they try to run 12km at pace.

They only have to run far enough to kill or hospitalize their victims. The rest of the time is your fantasy.

lol

That is actually funny.

Look, for the record, I absolutely loves me some NFL/college football. Also for the record, I think the players in the EPL or any other top-level soccer league are over-paid, under-talented, hairstyle-obsessed fairies whose greatest skills lie in falling over once they cross into the penalty area, writhing in pain when struck by a toilet roll or similar deadly weapon, whining to the ref, and spitting at one another when his back his turned.

The only butt-hurt people in this thread are the guys beating their chests because the NFL has been described as not being 'proper', whatever that is. Over-compensate much?

Having played both American Football and Rugby.. I can tell you my first Rugby match gave me an
appreciation for soccer players. The constant running and a ball that is always live except if it goes
out of bounds or there is a penalty, will really leave you sucking for air.

will really leave you sucking for air.

And then you train until it doesn't.  Arguing who is the best when people train for the sport and position they play is pointless.  If play stops every 15 seconds with a 30 second break, then you train for more power than if play is continuous, in which case you train for more endurance.  Its really not that unobvious.

I don't recall arguing with anyone. I was just sharing after playing American Football for 11 years how
my first Rugby match, which has a game flow more like soccer. Gave me appreciation for soccer players.
My point wasn't really that unobvious.

The bottom line is this, NFL players couldn't hang in "proper football".   Why?   Their awesome training, grants them unlimited substitutions throughout the four quarters, halftime and TV timeouts.   The only thing shared by "proper football" is halftime.   NFL players do not run 5-8 miles a game and do not even come close.   But again get more breaks.

As for "train until it doesn't", please stop.  You will always be winded at some point during the game and cannot control possession 100% otherwise  It really is that obvious.
