Starflight
M1 Tank Platoon
Mount and Blade
The most fantasic awesomest still have more game time then everything else combined?
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/46/Sid_Meier's_Pirates!_(1987)_Coverart.png) aces high is fun aswell, but the 3 previously listed still can be played today and infact I just got a copy of starflight 2 the other day.
-
I love playing all of the Splinter Cell games. The newer ones are very good but they are not even close to being as good as the original, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory. I also enjoyed the first few Ghost Recon games.
Grand Theft Auto V is probably my favorite game that was released within the last few years. If only they would come out with online heists already!
Some of my favorite classic games are GoldenEye, Super Mario 64, and Mario Party 3. My friends and I still get together and play Mario Party 3 on occasion. Those games can get intense quickly.

+1 for Pirates! It rocked on C64! My other all time favourite is Mattel Triple Action, more specifically the 'red baron'. My first multiplayer air combat experience. Also the original Elite was great. Not to mention Castle Wolfenstein 2D 'Achtung!' :)
On Amiga I played Red Storm Rising a lot. And Silent Hunter of course.
-
Galaga... bring your quarters! :O

Galaga... bring your quarters! :O
If coin op arcades count, Wizard of Wor, Asteroids, Gravitar, BattleZone.. aaah. Funny enough I can still smell the certain scent that was in the arcade room in which I played Wizard of Wor and BattleZone in.

I don't feel like sitting here for the entire day, posting 3 posts of games, and this is with just thinking off the top of me head. :lol
So summary for my answer: IMPOSSIBLE to answer. :D
-
CoD 3, BF2, WB2, and AH
Almost forgot - Mario Kart, Twisted Metal, and Gran Turismo
-
A lot of familiar stuff in the thread.
C64 - F15, F19 Stealth Fighter, Airborne Ranger, Pirates, Silent Service, Red Storm Rising, Elite
Amiga - F18, Silent Service 2, many others
Early PC XT/286 - M1 Tank Platoon, F19 Stealth Fighter 2.0, Battle of Britain, Secret Weapons of the Luft, Falcon AT, Wing Commander, Red Baron, and mostly Quake 2
486- Falcon 3.0, X wing series, further Wing Commander, so many others like Janes various sims like ATF, Navy Fighters, 688i, Aces over the Pacific etc
P2 200 to 450 era - Rainbow 6 numero uno, Falcon 4.0, Warbirds
I would say that overall the best titles came from Microprose back in the day, and Janes. It's been a long ride with Aces High now too, hopefully some of that magic returns with the new version, from the first beta and very first version that was 29.95$ per month, otherwise known as 60 bucks Canadian back then, and well worth it.

This game made me realize that video games were becoming bigger than just games, that they would become a new form of art.
Even, the music. I would turn the game on just to watch it and listen to the music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oTzxyFWDyE
-
I loved the Marathon start music. This is what you'd hear at work, then heads would dart up from you desks, people would shout "It's Marathon time!", and in we'd go. :aok

(http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o460/caldera_08/shopping.jpg~original) (http://s343.photobucket.com/user/caldera_08/media/shopping.jpg.html)
I used to dip the linemen in paint to make them bigger and heavier, so they could push the smaller guys around. Made up my own 32 teams, rosters, rules and even kept stats (Snailman would like those ;)) Haven't played in many years. Maybe I'll restart the league someday. :old:
Still have 1 player left from my brother's 1974 set, with his original base. He runs a wicked left side sweep. :D
-
If you played Doom on anything but the PC (not including the N64 version), you haven't played Doom at all. :noid
-
My kid still sometimes plays Mafia I. Too bad Mafia II dropped the ball.
Wonder if they may do a 'graphic enhanced' re-make of Mafia 1. The character and atmosphere that mafia 1 had they tried to implement into mafia 2, but they simply couldn't do it.
-
Galaga
SubLogic's JET
Herzog Zwei
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Aces Over Europe
Gauntlet
-

My kid has installed several mods to Mafia I that enhance the graphics. You can even make the cars modern if you like.
-
Sierra had some great games back in the day. Civil War one very similar to the design of Panzer General.
How could I have forgotten to mention the Age of Empires; that sparked or was the first big name in a great several year period where many of the medieval time period games became popular; not sure if that was Total War's roots.
-
Homeworld. :D
-
Yes Homeworld was great. Definitely deserves a mention.

Across the Rhine
More than one...
Mars Saga
Elite
Aces over Europe. Think that was the first flight sim I bought for a more "modern" computer.

You could say that about a LOT of NES games (*cough*Battletoads*cough*). Kids today, thinking Dark Souls is hard.
-
If you played Doom on anything but the PC (not including the N64 version), you haven't played Doom at all. :noid
Never once thought there could be DOOM snobs. :huh
Forgot about N64. Did have DOOM 64. The game was good but the controls were awkward. Preferred Goldeneye and Turok. :aok
-
All of the tycoon games I loved. Played them ALLLLLLL the time as a kid. I also love the Gran Turismo series until Forza Motorsports came out. Gotta love the "Modern Classic" Mario Kart. Call of Duty Black Ops was always fun.
Online, I played a whole lot of runescape as a kid. They released an Old School client back from 2007 last year. Started playing that again when that came out. Still get on from time to time.
-

:lol Yeah, admittedly the controls were a little wonky, until I got use to them. :) Goldeneye was a blast, but I loved Perfect Dark. :D

As maligned as it often was for sticking with carts, the N64 had some GREAT games. GoldenEye, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, Rogue Squadron, Conker's Bad Fur Day (screw you, Live And Reloaded). StarFox 64 was good, though I honestly preferred the original on SNES (Peppy and Slippy were WAY less annoying).

Aces High (thank you HTC for going with a flat rate)
Syndicate
Starfleet
Masters of Orion
No Regret/No Remorse
Ultima Online (lots of fond memories of gaming with my dad, like the time his mouse batteries died and he ran off into the back of the Dragon Cave)

Fallout 1-3 (especially 3)
Xcom (original and Enemy Unknown/Within)
Dungeons & Dragons Pool of Radiance (the 1st one)
Neverwinter Nights
I'm sure there are more that I spent hundreds of hours playing.

Maybe I'm blind, but no mentions of Wolf 3D? :cry Why I miss this one myself!? :bhead
Blake Stone Folks missed out on this one. It's release was just very poor. Had Doom been released a bit later, or Blake Stone a bit sooner, then it would be more well known I think.
Star Trek: Starfleet Command line. I was disappointed with III, truth be told. But II was a very fun one with me. :D
