Got a weird one here. My X-52 Pro wouldn't be recognized in game so I figured that a driver must have gotten corrupted.....easy fix or so I thought. I went to Saitek and downloaded the appropriate driver and installed it. This took forever...like an hour for it to finish (which it never did)...in fact my pc locked up so I had to restart. If I leave my stick plugged in to the USB port(powered hub), the pc wont progress past the password entry screen when windows starts. I unplug the stick and restart the pc and everything starts fine. I plug the stick in and windows says it's installed the drivers and I try to start AH...gets to the online arena selection phase and stops responding. I know I have deeper issues but I just want to fly.
thanks
Tim

First of all, you did not need to install anything from Saitek. If you did, then get rid of it.
Something is not acting right with your computer. I do not have enough information to make a guess at what it could be.
I need to see a [bcomplete[/b] DXDIAG output. That might help.
-
heres the dxdiag
-
You have two NVidia GTX 760 cards in the system?
What power supply is in the computer?
-
1 card 2 monitors
-
There are two instances of the card showing up in the DXDIAG output. That usually means there are two drivers installed, unless NVidia is actually registering the driver for each monitor, which would be very odd.
-
not sure on the power supply...its a big one though
-
Weird, how would I get rid of the duplicate vid driver?
-
Purge the system of the drivers, then let Windows install the VGA driver and then install the NVidia driver again.
Or, remove the other monitor and run DXDIAG again and view the text file to see if there is still a double entry.
-
unhooked the other monitor

I had a problem with a couple of updates before. when something got installed in windows and my x-52 throttle stopped working. not sure what madcatz did to their driver but somehow my windows got messed up. when I switched to the x-55 rhino the throttle would be recognized either. I had to do a clean reinstall of windows and then both my x-52 and x-55 throttle started working.
I still have my old hd and when I hook it up it still wont recognize my x55 throttle.

So if I read Skuzzy right, I can not install any Saitek drivers and the X52 should work fine?...How would I remove all the Saitek drivers.
-
Is there not an Add/Remove feature in the Control Panel/Programs and Features for the Saitek software in Windows?
-
Nothing in the add remove programs says Saitek, does that mean that I have gotten rid of all of it, or are there things left in the registry?
-
It might be madcatz. Yes, there could be things remaining in the registry.

You can sort the program list by the "installed on" date to make it easier to find.
-
The more I read this the more it sounds like power supply.
-
Jolly,
Open a side panel and take a look at the PSU! you should be able to see the manufactor and also see the power outputs to the different lines. This might help.
Does the game still hang on you if you only have 1 monitor connected?
Windows did a large update in early sept. and it has caused all kinds of issues,my machine will sometimes see the proper monitor and all is fine and other days I boot my machine and it reverts to plugnplay, this changes the resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x1200 and changes the refresh rate from 60 hz to 75hz. Easy enough to fix but I never had this issue before that blasted update.

Speaking about early september updates, check if you have installed and remove the updates mentioned in this article: http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-pulls-updates-recommends-uninstall-7000032678/
M$ recommended uninstalling them even if you had no problems with them. There's improved versions of them available now, they should be safe to install.
-
That is why you always wait one month before installing updates from Microsoft.

Normally I dont do updates on my game machine but when windows told me I had something like 17 updates to do and this large new one came up I fell for it! :furious
Serves me right though as I didnt bother to read all the updates and just click ok ...
Never again!

I'll look at the updates, could the power supply not be putting out enough power? I will look inside. AH won't even start now, after launch, it just hangs and say ah is not responding.
-
Did some poking around and found the power supply is an Extreme Gear 800 w psu. Looks like folks have had some problems with those. Would a power supply cause bsod's and usb devices to flake out?
-
Yes it would. Low power does all kinds of crazy stuff.
-
great

Went in and removed those updates that zdnet suggested, tried to run AH. With the stick unplugged the game would freeze when the progress bar window labeled pre cache appeared. Tried plugging the stick in and the game would freeze after I selected online arenas. I thought perhaps something in the game files was missing or corrupted so I uninstalled AH and re downloaded IT. When I try to install the game it keeps giving me the error

Jolly, did you install SweetFX previously?
-
Are you seeing any problems when the stick is not plugged in and you are not trying to install or run AH?
-
What's sweetFX, and it's been having random bsod's for a while.
-
What's sweetFX
If you have to ask, you don't have it. It's a third party graphics enhancer.
and it's been having random bsod's for a while.
That might be due to your PSU failing. Run a couple of Windows tests: Error checking http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors) and System File Check http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html) option two.

SweetFX is the graphics shader and configurator that has been making the rounds lately. It can enhance the appearance of games like Aces High. The most recent NVidia driver update broke something and required either a reinstall of SweetFX, or completely removing it and AH and starting over. The precise message the OP posted is the result of the Nvidia update on top of at least some SweetFX installs, although there are other reasons it might show up. Either way, the timing made me suspect that it is the update that might have caused the problem.
Sorry for the interruption.

Did both the checks that were suggested, still cant install AH. Should I try to download it again?
-
If it is the power supply, there is nothing in software that is going to fix it.

Oh, I forgot to mention to change the PSU prior the testing. My bad.
Have you also checked if you have the bad updates installed mentioned earlier in this thread?
-
Ok, I'll have to order one......any suggestions.
I did delete the updates that were mentioned.
-
It is a shame you do not have one to try. It is a crap shoot guessing what can cause these kinds of problems, at best.
-
How about the install error? Should I download it again?
-
Manually remove the entire directory. That should take care of it. If it does not, then you have some other issues going on. Possibly some anti-xxxx software interfering.
It could also be Windows has gotten so out of whack it does not realize the file is no longer being used. Or it is being used by another program (spyware, malware, virus....).
-
Ok, thanks
