How does one "Shoot" One's self?
If a Base is flashing red am I trying to kill it or defend it?
I obviously have to learn to use the radio.

You shoot yourself because of the kill shooter feature.
If a base is flashing you are trying to defend it.
Use your mic by pressing F12 for in-range comms or T for people on vox (numbered voice channel).
Or by pressing teh key combinations under each radio box (/, alt+/, shift+/)

The "kill shooter" causes you to be damaged or killed if you shoot a player from your country.

Quick tips. Shoot at planes with red icons, don't shoot at planes with green icons. If the starts to fill your windscreen, pull up.

If you are in a manned ground gun and hit friendly planes/vehicles, they don't take damage (and neither do you) but you get the "you have shot yourself x times" in the text buffer. Friendly GV/GV or Plane/Plane shots damage the shooter - hence the term "Killshooter".

Also friendly plane/GV shots apply to the killshooter. I have more than once killed myself in my mossie with my own quad-hizukas when I was chasing a bandit over our town and my 20mm fell on friendly GVs below. Ouch!

Certain ords too! I launched a rocket from an FW190AF to vulch an aircraft taking off and I got the killshot yourself message because a friendly was also flying through my rocket strike. I took no damage.

Ord doesn't count, bring that close air support in closer.
