i don't know man I'm a bit suspicious of a magazine that lists singles and compilations from the late 70s in their top ten lists from '14
especially in a climate where punk is so relevant that pitchfork is writing about it consistently
they seem to be into old punk or foreign punk mostly
but i guess contemporary american punk isn't for everyone it's all about that 90s Cap'n Jazz/American Football/Mineral sound
(granted that's especially strong in the Midwest/North East so I'm a bit biased I guess since I just find out about most punk stuff by going to basement shows so most of my music is from Pittsburgh or the Philly/Allentown area)
(but Philadelphia is the Mecca of punk right now so that's also why)
here's some good local bands that are pretty indicative of that sound

http://highdeaf.bandcamp.com/
http://skullkidpa.bandcamp.com/album/i-promise-thats-not-the-truth
also philly metrooo (there's so much philly punk it's insane actually I hate it when my philly friends tell me about things)
(everyone ever tries to be snowing)

(or algernon)

these dudes are playing at my friends house tomorrow they're pretty good

Philly has the stranglehold on cutting edge (also tolerable) pop punk as well (Front Bottoms are technically from NJ but it doesn't matter)

These guys are from California I don't know much about west coast punk except them (why would I??)

My favorite radio show is www.sonicoverload.net
...Al knows his punk rock.

yeah honestly I'm not really up on the historical or wider geographic context of punk in general (most of my casual listening is closer to the indie rock side of the continuum[which shares more with eastcoast and midwest stuff anyway]) but I love grabbing a 40 and going to a punk show so I'm pretty familiar with the here & now

Very cool...I figured I'd share my interest in something which I grew up in (late 70s/80s)...I like all rock/reggae/ska etc but I've my favorites...figured I couldn't be alone. I haven't got into my college radio days :)
