I subscribe to the PBS channel on YouTube, because it features that rarest and most wonderful of things, 'Muricans discussing important issues without yelling at one another.
Lots of pieces currently on the burn pits used to dispose of waste in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their affect on the health of those who were close.
Are there any views from the AH community? I assume a number of folks were there.

You mean like the waste pits we own in Africa? Where we dump a large portion of our electronics?

Many thanks for the reply eagl - didn't mean for the thread to be political, didn't even enter my head.
I was posting more along the lines of "I hadn't heard of this before, is it some kind of media beatup/teacup storm or is there something to it? I think I know some folks who will know."
I guess you've answered my original question, thanks.

Why do we need burn pits when we have mega shredders that can shred anything and recycle the debris?
Why don't we just burn Nuclear waste too.

I remember in Turkey you not only had the burn pits to deal with but the Turks would spray the crap out of the airbase with a DDT insecticide every evening. Actually they sprayed the crap out of their entire country with it until the early '80s. Add to that the jet exhaust of '60s and '70s era aircraft day in and day out. It was a very toxic time of my life.
I still remember the huge burn pits and the tractors towing DDT sprayers.
