Title: Cores and threads
Post by: pipz on November 22, 2014, 01:29:22 PM
How many cores/ threads does AH use?
Will this change with the forthcoming graphics update?

Thank you.

That is a difficult question to answer.  The game, itself, uses two cores, natively.  However, DirectX, DirectInput, and DirectSound will also fire off threads.

As to what the new version will do, it is still too early to tell where it will land.

Skuzzy knows best.

A safe bet might be, though, that a decent AH experience can now and will be in the next version be obtained with an upper clock rate dual or quad core processor, 8 GB of RAM and a graphics card from either AMD or nVidia from the upper half of the latest two-three generations with at least 1 GB of GDDR5 or faster memory and a newer than Vista version of Windows. Then again, these arguments apply to almost any current game.

If you want to know the absolute or recommended minimum requirements, they can be read here: http://www.hitechcreations.com/gameinfo/gameinfo-minimumreq (http://www.hitechcreations.com/gameinfo/gameinfo-minimumreq)

If you want to know whether the game will run equally well with everything maxxed on a $300 laptop as on a dedicated optimized gaming rig with a $700 video card, well... Suffice to say there's a reason for the price difference. A long-living gaming computer like described above costs something between $1000 to $2000, mostly depending on the video card. Below that is most often a compromise either on performance or quality, above that won't necessarily show any difference with a single HD monitor.
