Greebo hands down in my opinion has always been to me the person that not only mastered air combat but every other facet of playing and contributing to the game. and he did it all because he enjoyed it and he liked contributing and being creative.
He will always be in my mind the renaissance man of Aces High.
every time I ever met him in the skies in his fearless hellcat win or loose a happy hellcat pilot would say good fight!
I still remember the day he unveiled his first high res skin of that same hellcat years ago... the detail so crisp so exact so meticulous it became the gold standard for all skins to follow.
and over the years the countless works of skin art, terrains and all the dogfights he is the one above all others that saw what this game could be and made it better.
Few people realize he has had the greatest impact on it than any other player that ever played the game.

What if you put him in a different plane?
As for the best probably the self proclaimed master of the game, skyrock.
-
This is a good post. :aok
SkyRock do u still own Poison? :D
-
Funny how he does seem to get overlooked when the "who's the best" conversations fire up. Fester summed him up quite well.
:salute Greebo

Agreed!

Skyerr just ask him :bolt:
-
Sadly I have only met him in the air once when I first started playing and it was a fun 3 seconds :joystick: But I do agree he has always been a top notch asset to the game, Fester dont sell yourself short on be a huge asset to the game either :salute to the both of you.

Lol sorry someone had to say it. :D
In all honesty Tongs is right up there in SA and ACM.
Slightly off topic but some of the best fun fights i have had has been fighting Latrobe and one very memorable fight against Cain a few years back about 10 mins worth of exchanges starting at 20k each .my mossie v his pony working our way to a very slow stall fight on the water. No one won the fight with bullets, it finished with Cain dipping a wing in the water. Bummer of an ending but probably one of the most fun fights i have ever had.

I move to make today, November 29, National Greebo Appreciation Day! :rock

Tongs seconded. Can't personally say with Greebo as I can't recall ever fighting him (but his skins are great).

Miss the point much? It's people like you and Skyrr that cemented my decision to quit.
-
Quit obviously its Zack1234. His prowess in virtual air combat is well apparent. :old:
Greebo would be a well earned close second! :D

Only ran into Greebo a few times but certainly enough to see he was an expert in the Hellcat. Their are quite a few folks who are good at ACM whether its turn and burn 'til death or bnz and run for the hills.
There are also great players as far as supporting the game and being a positive part of it but they might be average or below average pilots.
Once in a a while there are players who are exceptional at both. Deadly in their pixel plane and great folks to fly with or against, who give more to the game than they take away. Greebo seems to be one of those players.

:salute Greebo
Probably because he doesn't gloat about it or rub it in like most good sticks do. (Been guilty of this before myself).

The legend of Drex is the best kept secret in Aces High. I will say only what I know from first hand knowledge about what I know about why you only ever saw drex when he was in the zone and who he flew with on shade accounts to practice. He talked me into making one years ago to fly with him incognito. I was river, he was styx.. his idea. Not a disparage of his ability but he was a real player with ups and downs and he did this to heighten the in game persona of Drex by only playing on it when he was in the zone 100%.
and as great as the Legend of Drex or (insert best acm table turner of your choice) is... all they have given to the game is a standard to beat which in itself is a one dimensional benefit.
imagine if you will if you had a legion of players who didn't aspire to be like drex... but like greebo. what if they actually took steps towards such a goal or a standard of that magnitude of what they could attain in this wonderful cartoon world HTC has created?
they would see not just the acm mastery but a mastery of the entire game from everything a player could possibly accomplish in it.
they would build the world to their liking then texture the planes to their liking. then fly on the terrain they made in the plane they skinned and shoot at other players and enjoy every minute of it.
It is disheartening that the creator of the game might find more value in a long vanished legend that was more an idea and an image than anything else. the value of that is very high indeed... but maybe they did not consider why a renaissance man like greebo made an impact far greater on the game in so many ways than any other player in the history of the game.
but that's just my opinion...
i never wanted to be like drex...
I wanted to be like greebo and I was just one player that saw what he could accomplish and was inspired to do the same.

You asked a question and received an answer from HT. You could have made a disclaimer to "nullify long vanquished legends", but you didn't.
-
the question was a bit rhetorical and my reply simply my opinion of why I personally felt truly inspired by greebo more than drex. I personally flew with and against both so I felt I could give my own opinion of each from knowing them both. I agree that drex is also one of the greatest players that ever played Aces High.
However the point of the post was at it core a thank you note to a player who was amazing and real 100% in everything they did. there was never any illusion with greebo he has always been the real deal in game and in everything he created for the game over the better part of a decade.
He remains the player in Aces High that I will always admire most for these reasons.
I have always been interested in the creative part of what you could do as a player in the game with the terrain editor and the skin making stuff as well as the acm. as I reflected on this I made a post about someone who simply mastered all of that and the in game flying as well and made an opinion that on a scale of measuring someone worthy of admiration in their total abilities to master anything the game could challenge them with... Greebo broke the sound barrier and then went into outer space and became the first astronaut.

Greebo has always been one of the very best in my book. Plus like Fester said he's also given much to the sim.
I rank Fester right up there with him though on both flying ability and what he's given back to the game.
-
Who cares?
Sorry, that comment was.to Drex and Fester flying under shades to become awesome in their own mind, not about Greebo's contributions to the game.
Thanks Greebo.

Wow...Thanks for the head swell guys...Unfortunately I feel a little embarrassed to be mention in this thread...Within the context of the question I am no where near the level of the people who should fill this thread.
I would have to say Greebo for sure ... along with a few others which I haven't had the opportunity be around much.... the guys who organise and run events on a regular basis I put in there also.... having to spend copious amounts of time trying to put together FSO, Senarios etc and getting grief about little inaccuracies / rules ....I would say, "stick it" half the time.... This brings to mind Baldeagle with his dueling bracket...... and the guys who make the sounds for in game also..... so many.... but all round would have to be Greebo and Fester that I know of that have added to all areas of our game... I am a noob though when it comes to the length of time AH has actually been around.
Just on a side note to get a sense of how much extra time these guys spend on AH .... download the terrain editor and try make a map suitable for the MA....I dare ya....I double dare ya !!

Axer and Dexter, those 2 were an unstoppable force.... :aok

Only if you fly up on them after vulching their shade. Then they run for sectors to get away.

I do believe greebo is one heck of a pilot. Him and myself have had great battles that lasted quit some minutes that felt even longer. I cant really say who is the best in the game but i have had alot of "Great Fights" with guys like latrobe, b4buster, sunsfan, violator, BigR, Steve..the list goes on but i think all of us has our own best thing to offer when it comes down to dogfighting.
Sincerely: Rudeboi :salute :salute :salute :salute

Like others have said.... greebo was always one of those guys that was great to fight and never failed to return a <S>..... just a pure class act. Someone should make a F6f skin covered in kill markings from top to bottom for him ....cause he sure the hell never would.
-
Don't remember seeing Greebo much the hours I play. But Drex was the best I have seen and Fester probably 2nd on that list.
-
Definately Greebo :salute.
2.) Our trainers...the guys and gals that use there personal time to train up our new guys. :salute
3.) The guys and gals that use there personal time to put together special events! :salute

Of course it's Greebo, don't be surprised, all the greatest players in this game are British

Greebo seems to be the one ubber ace who gives back to the community far more than most.
I remember when I was just learning this game. I would up the Spit9 because I thought this was the quick trip to nirvana. I ran into this slowish, a bit low F6F and dove in. Moments later....tower. This went on for a while until Greebo ran out of bullets, gas and patience. As he left the DAR he saluted me. I sent him a PM and asked how to do ACM. His repsone taught me the great lesson of all time.
I am clearly not an ubber stick, though I can hold my own against most. And that single lesson became the baseline knowledge that made sense of everything else I learned. That knowledge came from Greebo. For that he gets my vote.

Thanks Cit and everyone else for the kind comments. While I'm pretty good at what I do I've never thought I was even close to being the best pilot in the game. I essentially just fly one plane and one flying style while others are good in many planes and styles.
-
Don't sell yourself short, Greebo. From what little I've seen / heard you are a great cartoon fighter pilot.
And you make great skins too! Double dipping!
:salute

Thanks Greebo for your many contributions to the game <<<S>>>

I wasn't going to post in this thread as it was looking like just another "look at me" thread. I'm sure the OP started it just to get a few votes/accolades rolling his way.
But I've been thinking about it, Greebo the "Best at the game"? naw, he's good, but I've seen better fighter jocks. I don't think he spends much time in GVs or buffs. The best FOR the game? oh ya, hands down. There are very few who put in the time and effort to "add" to the game. Some of the other unsung heros are the guys who put together the scenarios and extra stuff that hasn't anything to do with the main arenas. Trainers fall under this groups as well. ALL of these guys are great FOR the game.
Great AT the game, then you have to start looking at those who play the game well and make it fun for those around them. Mugz (the old one not the new one), TZR, a few of the BOP's, a couple of the Ltars, Lynx (the old one). These are players who studied the game much like Lusche does now, but they used the info to draw other players in to the fun. Small missions, large missions, sneak missions, sweeps, and porking runs these were the guys that made the arena run. One of these guys would log on and half the country would hound them to "put something together", and they more often than not would.
ET, Joker, Chewie and others are mere shadows of these other guys who were good at the game. They could do it all and do it well. They knew more tricks and work arounds than a dozen other players put together. There scores were never the top because they weren't here for scores. But if you wanted to jump start a map you wanted these guys around to get things rolling. It was always fun when these guys were pushing the buttons.
Top fighter jocks, top buff pilots, top GVers, they are just good at ONE aspect of the game. I'd rather see more guys good at many/all aspects of the game than any more guys good at only one.

Greebo is a special guy...
I very much appreciate him...
-
The post above is from who I feel is one of the best all around dogfighters in this game. <S>Widewing, you taught me much :aok
Never got the opportunity to take my 1a vs Greebo's F6, would look forward to it though.

To begin with <S> Greebo. I concur with the overall package assessment. I always made a b-line to any hellcat if I knew Greebo was in the AO because he is one heck of a fun fight, not going to HO you and not going to run. Most of the other names being thrown around wing up or perch.
And... then you add contributions to the game, overall nice guy to share wisdom. Nice thread Fester.

Hi Ammo, I've been working long hours every day recently. It has left me too tired to play late at night UK time when arena numbers are good enough. The few times I have logged on I've just flown like a zombie. The skinning I mostly do in the morning when my brain is working again but there's no one online then.
-
Thank you Greebo <<S>> you are always a blast to fight against in a hellcat

Drex

Drex, Levi and Fester were are really tough people to fight when I played.
All three would be added to my list of people who were considered as the top back when I played!
-
So many great players named here. Seems like the should be an AH Hall of Fame, if there isn't one already.
I agree contributing fantastic skins to the game, making terrains, being a terrific stick and a great sport are all ways to measure a player's value to the game. But I want to mention how much I appreciate all the film makers - the Niros, LePape, 20Dolby10, etc - these guys take what happens in the game and package into videos, adding a special kind of excitement and appeal to the game. And all the CMs who organize and run special events, and the trainers who help newbies learn the ropes are very important contributors too.
So I can't vote for just one "best". <S> to everybody named in this thread.
