Title: Ground Vehicles Boot Camp
Post by: capera on December 04, 2014, 07:18:57 AM
14 years I have been subscribed to Aces High...and I still die with one hit.

I see other players landing 5, 6, 7 kills....and wonder how they survive. When I actually do range in on a enemy tank, my rounds simply bounce off....and they turn their turret, one shot.... and I am DEAD.  :bhead

A tutorial....or some advice on how to "enjoy" this portion of the game sure would be appreciated.

The first and most important three things a tank needs to do are:  shoot, move and communicate

Also important:

Cover and concealment

Find a good hull-down or turret-down position

Stop (albeit briefly), look, listen

present your best armored profile towards enemy (not always possible with multiple enemies around)

Learn to shoot accurately

Learn to shoot accurately, while in motion

Learn the effective range of your armament

accept the fact that no position is a "perfect" position for very long

Learn the armor thickness of every tank Vs' what you like to use and your penetration ranges. I had a good fight with a Tiger I Vs a  Panther at just outside his penetration range. had i moved closer i would have been done in by him. but i know he could not beat me at the range we were at.

One thing to do for sure is learn to adjust your range finder in your scope. While in position 2(looking through the scope in German tanks) use C and V or your mouse wheel to adjust the range finder. Also use the Z button to help zoom. Zoom or Magnification is different for almost every tank. When in motion use your Joystick to target. Offline is a good place to learn how the shells react when fired while in motion. :joystick: When Stationary i like to use my mouse to target.

Remember to use the range/ distance marker above the tanks offline so you can get the feel of the actual distance to the enemy tank and its size in comparison ! The numbers on the screen corespondent to the distance to target!
Get a friend , or me to go to the TA and shoot at each other while moving around ,, it helps a great deal to train for this, learning lead for the different tanks!
Use airplane icons to get range of enemy tanks, as they fly over,  the storch is great for this, just remember to pay attention to the range icon .

All interesting theories, BUT the best way to enjoy the GV side to AH, is to up a Spit 16 with bombs (they never expect it) and wait for the nasty PM's when you ventilate their tin cans  :devil

Highly recommended.

I always have fun slumming it with WWhiskey in a tank.  He has all these neat little things he likes to do and when you are with him watching him do it, it is a blast.

I highly encourage you to get with him if you can.
