Ok so heres an idea in the new version HTC models a basic first person shooter.
These human shields get to play for free and terrorise the GV guys with bazookas and panzerfausts. Maybe a sapper or engineer model. Jump on and off jeeps / m3s and motorcycles. Able to fix GV's in the field after a period of time or small corrections to aircraft and gain some sort of perk points that may be in turn used on some other play toys in the hangar.
Spawn from barracks at fields (if they down can't up from that field) troops strat damage relates to how many units allowed.
Soon as they want to try some of the games other areas such as armour or god forbide an aircraft they have to cough up $$$'s or use their XP points.
Would be cool to join a C47 in flight and bail out with other squaddies to assist in capturing/ defending a town.
WHat with the storch pilots bailing out and defending vbases and ports with pistols the game kind of has this already just needs to be expanded upon and made a more legitimate form of gameplay.

You know all wishes are slid in here on the special road lined with good intentions.
I will wait with abated breath for your "General" forum observation. It will be, HiTech needs to do something forceful about all the free to play hooligans killing you in your cockpit as you spawn to fly into combat. We can barely stop a pilot from doing that now if auto ack is down. You want to create a hoard of children doing it for free.
Hey Joey I'm bored today, what can we do? I know, Aces High 3 just started up, and they have a free FPS troop we can play. Mikey says he and some friends played that, and found out most of the pay players are old guys and screwing with them is real fun. They scream on channel when you frag them.......
Reeeaaallllyyyyy????? Lets do it. I love making that old guy next door stand in the street screaming at my parents.

What are you doing upping from a field with the ack down???
I like the idea because I think Hitech needs to diversify the game to draw new players in.

You are overlooking something.
If AH was being started up on 1\1\15 with FPS troop only Free to Play advertised, Or, $14.95 to get the full monty, sure, hunky dory. Then the game would have a large in and out population of freeloaders doing everything they can to screw and grief the slow growth group of full paying customers. HiTech under those conditions would probably have to relent and give them a limited plane set to entice upgrading to full pay status.
Today we have customers who have been with this game for 15 years paying faithfully every month on time. And now some paying and no longer playing customers want what they pay for to be given away with a very good chance of creating a permanent population of freeloaders who will grief the paying customers at any chance to rub it in. Among those many are current paying customers who would drop their full pay subscriptions in a heart beat to become free loaders. That is what the old HtH free arenas created instead of a staging area to entice players to upgrade to full paying and get all of the benefits. No one ever saw that ugly side of the free HtH because the two arenas never crossed paths.
It's amazing how many players want to spend HiTech's money for him, to get a free ride off some other group of players backs. Deja Vu...hmmmm I've seen this phenomenon somewhere in the real world. Welfare state and Atlas Shrugged comes to mind.

Could it be that I agree with Bustr?

ok well since your adverse to the F2P option I sort of agree with the points you made about it anyway. Apart from the game dwindling to nothing and having to close.
all of the above added to our virtual hangar for susbscribers. :D
-
I don't see why an FPS side of AH is considered to be only a feature for squeakers, trolls, and griefers. It seems obvious that if HiTech has been wanting to add it for a long time that he has a good idea of how to do it in a way that is acceptable.
It does seem like an expensive addition at this point, but if he gets some sort of donated effort maybe not so much.

I've always wanted the complete WW2 experience in one open ended battlefield. I feel it is slightly HTC's duty to remember those brave soldiers as well not only as a history lesson to the young but the fact that war is hell especially if your a grunt.
Seems silly not to have some troops running around towns and instead of a "tank" town which seems to be entirely un-realistic without planes dropping bombs on them and troops shooting bazookas at them!
Played some COD with my 12 year old nephew tonight and he owned me :o just seeing him scroll through all the menus and getting his kit just right before using it was impressive!

Tanks in actual combat cannot survive long without infantry.

The idea that people currently paying will stop paying because of the addition of a feature that doesn't currently exist is insane
The idea that the community should be restricted to the current 27 people who still play this game so that you don't have to deal with new players and the occasional griefer is insane (though if that's what the current community wants then, by all means, that's exactly what they deserve)
The idea that this game has a snowball's chance in hell of getting new life breathed into it without dramatic changes is insane
There was certainly a lot of overlap between H2H and paying subscribers especially because H2H players could use the forum. I certainly remember flying H2H with frequency. Occasionally it was unpleasant but hey
People played back then
(when was H2H shut down, 2008? that actually correlates pretty close to the number peak yeah? obviously that didn't primarily contribute to anything but it's a funny coincidence)
The unnecessary wordiness of your post combined with the weird, almost fatalistic blind elitism leveled against the people who are needed for a healthy community makes the Ayn Rand allusion at the end strangely beautiful. I'm waiting eagerly for the obligatory follow up post about how recreational sex is for pond scum because worthwhile people have better things to do.
(all that said I think that the idea that HTC can just 'whip up' a FPS and that anyone will want to play it and that it will rejuvenate the game is a bit naive)
-
+1
I like the idea because it could introduce many new people to the full game. More moving targets for paid dudes too. Word of mouth advertising could have viral moments.
ALSO
Add an interface where folks with mobile phones could interact with just the FPS components. To do the full flight model would take the PC version.
With this there would be a constant infusion of peeps migrating to fighter planes and GVs.

How would the grunt be modeled? If memory serves FPS games like COD one has a health bar and can take multiple potentially fatal hits. It would seem to me that if HTC were to create a damage model of a Grunt then he/she ought to be extremely easy to kill, But it would be interesting especially if HTC added cluster munitions and Napalm. I currently have a glorious vision of dropping napalm on a horde of grunts, and remember, napalm sticks to rooks.
-
+1 for napalm
-
I am all for free to play access for Jeeps and Storch's or any other " support" role rides that may be added in future.
I am not sure about FPS roles here. I would favour deploying infantry ( from vehicles) in a sort of C&C game model.
-
Player controlled troops?
Dear god there would be troop missions
"Alright step on up! Bring beer because going this one sector is a 3 hour run! But it will be worth it when our deacker forgets one gun in town and we all die!"
:old:
EDIT: in to it
-
+1 :aok
Imagine there could be battles underground for installations like tunnels, bases, and factories.
-
In order for people to play the FPS, it would have to have really good graphics, otherwise they have no reason to be there and would go to a better F2P game. Don't see this happening in the next 10 years....
:bolt:
-
Chris they would be really easy to kill from a tank or aircraft and there will be an achievement for 10,000+ troops kills Vlad the Impaler!
Graphics don't have to be amazing just needs to be alot of fun. Look at Minecraft for gods sake!
Don't get me started these troopers could start digging trenches or setting up foxholes by cutting down trees :D
Just think it will open up other things like running out of fuel in your spitfire parking it up and getting out. Here comes a squeaker in his jeep with a jerry can to top your tank up after you put a call out on country for supplies. Instead he steals your spitfire with 10% fuel and flies off in it. You then take his jeep and drive back to the base with some explaining to do. :o

FPS works now.
If I get shot down near any enemy field, I will creep up to the field and either take out a manned ack or hide at the rearm pad with the pistol.
Film of pistol whipping an ack while it is manned.

The more I think about the more I think the idea. I like the idea of being able to strafe, Bomb, napalm, and run over player controlled troops with gv's. I assume one would have the choice between combatant countries in terms of weaponry ect.

Remember Haters that you want HTC to go on with out change. The lack of change and lack of change in the business model is whats going to kill the game. Remember that many things that contribute to bringing more players in the introduction of new things.
Look at the numbers in the MA.
+1 To some FPS fun. Like I said before maybe 3-4 different troops for the testing with many types to follow.

You guys do realize the level of effort you're essentially asking for is 'Create an entirely new game.' right?
Sorry, but look at that tank video and truthfully ask yourself if people would be interested in that even remotely compared to other free FPS's that are currently available.

Wiley,
Think Ferguson, New York City, and the recent 12 hour revolt.
Everyone has some part of the game they have never been happy with. Since HiTech and Skuzzy have been watching, and not MODing, or Ban hammering like with the 12 hour revolt. Everyone is getting their licks in against HiTech until something happens.
This FPS idea is not a bad idea in spirit. The willingness to tell HiTech that the water is too high in the ship by their professional estimation. And he doesn't keep them up to date about every little thing in his office, or even throw them life preservers. So he has to let their ideas save the ship or else, is what's wrong.
A few will push this into a BAN stick moment because they have axes to grind with HiTech, dragging the many with them. The same scenario with the 12 hour rule debacle, fortunately less orginised. But, mobs are tricky things believing anything at the moment that agrees with their feelings. Worse so if they have instigators willing to shout those things at every opportunity. My first reference to Ferguson and New York.
The real danger is the group following the few ax grinders, will become poisoned to enjoying the upcoming new game release. Strong feelings leave lasting impressions. And if you think about it, that's all any computer game is.

I see your point Willey, just remember this is what you call a long time investment. I know it won't happen next month. But as a potential Avenue to go down. Look at how the numbers are down. I see new names and new shades but not enough to really hit 400-500 people in the MA. I may be crazy but to me this something I would like to see change.
Bustr I am sorry if I coming across as a ax grinder. That is not my intention. I just see niche in the market for this. Because I hate to see this disappear. To me graphics don't mean as much if I am having fun.

HiTech is building a new game.
To reach the alpha testing stage he already had his plan for the "finished product" a long time ago. All of these wishes are excuses to pile on HiTech for every little spit and unhappiness under the sun. It's like threatening a chef while he's cooking you a surprise dinner.
If the chef walks out the door you will be angry for not getting dinner. And if he keeps cooking, as things stand. You will keep threatening him because you don't know what he is cooking, so you want whatever comes through the door to be something you want.
The chef can't win either way. But, a good chef is a good chef. A bad customer is a bad customer.

The true enthusiasts who used to make up the flight sim player base.......the guys who used to spend hours writing the perfect boot that allowed the maximum memory available and spent just as long configuring modem strings for the best performance, have been replaced by the gamers who have zero patience and want the most heavily armed and fastest planes right now.....and want action right away.
Don't hate the game, hate the playa.

An awful lot of people want some semblance of a fair fight, and they aren't guaranteed it in a game like this. You see it every couple minutes on 200, "Picker, gangbang, etc etc." Whatever the specifics of the incident that caused the whine, it boils down to "That was unfair!"
People used to get a bit more fairness because a decent number of the guys on the other side would choose to play fair a lot more than people do nowadays. See the tear stained, rose tinted wishes for the days of yore when people would "respect 1v1s" and let planes RTB when wounded and everybody said "Good fight" over 200 and they all sang kumbaya over vox as they played. :old:
That was all on the players. The only thing that mechanically matters in this game is what you can do within the physics allowed by the program, and what you can't. Everything else is up to the personal choices of the players in the game.
Most people are here to kill red guys (or take undefended bases, but that's another matter) as efficiently as possible. Whether that's in a committed 1v1, a drag and bag for a wingman, a gangbang on a lone bandit that wandered into the middle of you is irrelevant, that's the situation that occurred.
It also unfortunately also results in a lot of people killing by ack drag or any of a number of lame tactics. It's there, people use it. People have differing lines they will and won't cross, but again that's all on them and nothing to do with the game design.
I don't want the game making everything fair for me at every turn. It's up to me to put myself in situations I can survive, and watch out for the ones that get me dead, or not. The point is it's my choice to enter combat when I know I'm likely going to get swarmed and killed.
That's what I want, that's what is ONLY possible in an open world game like this, and it's why I am here and not in one of the other games.
Wiley.

I don't care whether its a "fair" fight, I just want a fight, and no having 6 guys dive on me, or being in a crowd of 6 diving on a single guy is not a fight.
