Title: Salute Bishops
Post by: Lusche on December 16, 2014, 11:49:10 AM
For putting this

together last night. Even with the formation command, this is a very rare sight in the MA these days. Most 'mass' formations are usually just a gaggle of bombers flying in relative proximity. But not this one.  :rock

Following pilots made up this formation:

Peanut1 509th HBG 'Ramblin Raiders'
Elec1 509th HBG 'Ramblin Raiders'
DZZ400 Zombie squad:"zombies dont play nice"
1Eagle1 ***Alchemists***
Blazin 509th HBG 'Ramblin Raiders'
bgoldy The Marauders
Picko 9GIAP VVS RKKA
BigMoFo Iron Saints 101st Squadron BTP
jbaker
hammer66 509th HBG 'Ramblin Raiders'

with chris7 as their sole escort in a P-51D

I only wished you guys had brought a squadron of escorts with you. For despite the popular whine, bombers at 20k flying several sectors deep into enemy territory are very much victims to any halfway coordinated interception.
By the time I was winchester, the mission had already lost 15 out of 30 bombers to the repeated attacks of 10 fighters. If any bomber pilot actually had made it back home, he would have been exceptionally lucky.

Hope to see more of this ... and wouldn't mind to see you fly somewhat higher and with more 'little friends' ;)

Agreed, it was great to see. The entire formation was fairly low but made up for it with their defensive teeth.

I scored a few kills, but I had to work hard for them by getting into the perfect position each time. The rest of the attackers weren't as patient and I saw countless guys running home with smoking engines or catastrophic damage.

I flew in one a week or so ago. It was a blast. I tried to make a film to share but my skills are weak and I could not get the shots I wanted. We made It to target and only our dear leader did not make it home.  The basts from our formation drop on a radar factory was awesome.  I think we got it down to 25%.  Enemy con were flying into a thick wall of gunfire and many did not make it home.

Thanks to High Tech for creating these possibilities and thanks to the players for making it happen.  :salute

I looked at that picture and my hear skipped a beat!

Bombers, lots of Bombers and not just flying along.............Bombers in Formation......I drooled a little, best part of the game IMHO, except they need about 10 to 20 escorts to really make it fun!

In the 484'th we flew strict combat boxes usually anywheres from 6 or 7 per box and 3 or 4 boxes. Even if we only had 6 or 7 pilots it was still a formidable box cause your talking 21 bombers and who knows how many 0.50s aimed your way. We stayed 400 to 600 from each other and were very disciplined.

Of course the Bomber Hunters were better back then too. Lusche being just one of some who were actually able to successfully attack a box and survive. Even guys like him were hard pressed to get kills attacking a disciplined box of 24s, or 17s. I always thought the best Bomber Hunters were able to focus on just one Bomber at a time. In the actual Late war many German pilots were very fearful of attacking a disciplined Box.

Its good to see the art form still lives. Those were great days back when the Bomber war waged, when the Bomber squads were active.

What is this "formation command"?

A function that keeps you in auto formation with a designated wingman. You have to map it to a key or button. Set a .wingman, then hit the button and your plane will be kept in formation with him.

When I see a bunch of bombers, all I can think of is "buffet".  If you attack them with the correct tactics, bombers are easy kills... (muwwwaaah ha ha)

Looks like fun...

On edit... Look for me (akmeathd) on your side if you do a giant bomber mission like this, esp if it's a Monday...  I might be able to get the AK's to escort ya :)

A big Salute to you fellas!  I managed to fly home with a few drops of gas, lots of bullet holes and five kills in a 262.

This inspires me to get back in-game. I can remember many years ago, when I was a bish, participating in similar formation raids.  If the CJs don't want me back, perhaps I'll be augering and ack-hugging for the Bish Bombardment Bringers.  :rock

There was no formation command back then. Back then you actually had to fly your place in the box, and we gave as good as we got. :D

:airplane: Great to see this! "Formation command" in Rookland is this: Devil Dog Bomber Mission Posted....................We run large bomber formations nightly in the MLW arena and usually have 18 to 30 bombers........recently we put up 27 bombers, was attacked by 7, count them, 7 ME262's, 5 of which were dispatched promply, and we only lost 4 drones.....yes, we did have 6 escorts, but most of the damage to them were by the bomber pilots.....
So large bomber formations are alive and well in the MLW arena and "Snailman" ought to know this, because he attacks us quite regularly, but has learned, some of his "perks" are in peril when attacking the "Dawgs"
