Has anyone played around with this? It's really quite awesome.

What it is in a nutshell is a 3D map of known space that you can explore for eternity and never even get close to finding everything. Here are some screen shots I took in the first few hours of playing with this.

I have to stop posting pics now or the thread will go on endlessly. This is well worth downloading for anyone interested in this sort of thing. It's FREE.

It's beautiful :cry
-
Looks cool. I might have to give it a go over the holidays. :aok
-
looks nice but KSP is more fun....
-
yes, yes it is!
but this is a different thing, this is an encyclopaedia of actual reality mapped in accurately in 3D. Not really a game.
-
Cool stuff.
Don't deny it -- some of those landscapes had you thinking about the cliff diving or a freefall... :)
-
Very cool, had not seen this one before.
I have spent a long time playing with this though....get lost in a space trance.... http://stars.chromeexperiments.com/
-
haha! even getting out of the shower or making a bacon sandwich makes me think of freefall :P
That's pretty cool Dee, what a great age of computing we live in. Still new enough to amaze us but developed enough to be so stunning. In 100 years people will take it all for granted.

thank you for sharing this always been interested In things like this

As far as I am aware, Vanilla KSP doesn't let you travel around beyond Kerbal home system. I know there are MODs that allow you to do this to an extent, but from what I've seen, not on this scale. :headscratch:
-
You're absolutely right, it doesn't unmodded....
But I'm quite happy building my solar system wide network of keythane refuelling stations and doing a grand tour....

couple planets I've found so far
Desert Planet with Binary Stars:

Watery planet(with not much land but huge mountains where there is land) looking at Horsehead and flame Nebula through atmospheric Aurora

I have no problem with this thread going on endlessly lots of cool things out there to share.

Awesome pics! More please.

I read that in Alec Guiness' voice.

LOL as I was zipping around that planet this is EEXACTLY what I was thinking. ONe thing I forgot to mention is hat that screen shot is taken in the eye of a massive storm, you can see the wall clouds on the horizon.

Finally got around do downloading it, apparently the latest patch makes the program not work on XP at all anymore according to the bug reports :(
-
That sucks! There is a section on their page which links to previous versions, have you tried that?
-
Trying now but also having an issue with the graphic driver too, something causing the monitor to go dark then then the PC reboots in about 30 seconds, seems to have started with the Nvidia driver when it was updated earlier today
Edit - Think either the video card or maybe the power supply may be going
-
Awesome! Had no idea about this.
Thank you for sharing Batfink! :aok
