I found a place locally carrying a bunch of overstock X-55 joysticks, new, for $119. Any opinions on the stick?
-
as far as I know the x-55 has never been overstocked. I would be skeptical. specially since they normally sell for 200.

Buy it, sell it for 150. X55 is junk. You're better off making dough from buying those, selling them on ebay, and then buying a Thrustmaster Warthog.
This is coming from a 6 month X55 owner :old:

I'm not to familiar with flight sticks, is there a problem with your current set up?
No, been using a Microsoft FFB2 for about 11 years now. It works well, but I'd prefer split dual-throttle and stick. Saw the X-55 and it looked decent, hence the post.

Why not add a Saitek three quadrant throttle to use with the MS FFB2 Sidewinder? You could set it up as left and right throttle and use the third one for flaps or RPM etc. I think it's about $50. It adds 6 switches as well.

Mmm, this got me thinking
*sorry if this is illegable typing from phone half asleep*
I seem to remember you mentioning that you where a flight instructor. Have you ever tried to write off some of your personal equipment as tax deductible? I have a brother who teaches guitar and he was able to write off over $7000 worth of his own stuff. Its just a thought, I'd imagine if worked out like that you could get your hands on some pretty hi end stuff without costing you much.

The x-55 stick is a bit useless....the split throttles are ok. I use a CH stick with the x-55 throttle.

I would recommend buying it. I have had one now for eight months and it has been perfect!

+1. It would be nice to see this deal!

Strap yourself in and prepare for a wild ride of technical issues depending on your setup.
I have an X55, and when coupled with Windows 8 or 8.1, and USB 3.0 ports, there are a LOT of reports of problems with both the stick and the throttle ghosting. If you can fix the problems, it's a nice stick with plenty of switches and buttons, but it took hours of tinkering on the phone with Saitek tech support and searching various different forums.

Mine's going on a year old and I'm started to get random glitches...zooming without hitting the button, auto pilot the same thing...gonna go back to my X52 pro soon.Glad it was only $200.

I think I've had mine installed for about 4 months.
I'm perfectly happy with them in combination with CH rudder pedals.
I use a powered USB 2.0 hub in a USB 2.0 port on Win7 64-bit. I created an Aces High profile with the Saitek programming software.
I am skeptical about a 119$ price point, though. Perhaps a mistake?
If Skyyr found them at that price, I would gladly pay him 120$ for two sets and pay for shipping. Maybe. :D
I'm told that the hotest setup in Aces High is the one he already has, though.

Would be interesting to hear what kind of problems you've had with the Warthog? :-)
Also, how to you experience the resolution of the X-55? Good an exact?

I use the x55 throttle and like it for the most part. Every once in a while it gets a mind of its own and does some weird stuff but overall it's nice. I'm not a big fan of the stick though. I like that you can change the springs but I have a harder time lining up shots with the conical seat it uses.

Been using the X55 for 4 months or so I have no issues about my purchase , straight from the box into a powered USB and used the program in AH to assign my keys and havent looked back . Ive used the Saitek's x52 and the pro series aswell , then to CH setup wich the X55 replaced. I am using Win7 Pro 64bit if that makes any difference , but seeing 1 for $119 raises to many red flags for my taste , got mine thrue Amazon Canada for $210 plus shipping and no ware did I see this unit overstocked during any of my searches on any site but rather the oposit had to wait for it to be in stock, hope it helps.
