Mr HiTech, this question is for you please.
The F4u-1 at 25% fuel is 11,1159 pounds. The F4u-1d is 11,109 pounds. Mossy's turn list puts the turn radius of the F4u-1 at 710 and the turn radius of the F4u-1d at 696.
Why does the F4u-1 "feel" more responsive?
This is not a question to criticize the game or seed a lame statement. I really want to understand the planes better.
Could you help me understand why the F4u-1 "feels" more responsive?

When you "fly" your PC you feel your joystick tension or mouse movement and relate it to what you see and hear. If something "feels" different it probably looks different. Looking at the monitor you mostly see roll rate and turn rate. What are you noticing that makes it "feel" different?

Maybe the bird cage canopy allows for a more stablilty while manuevering, the -1's engine and prop don't create as much thrust as the 1d, that probably means less torque.

All of the F4U-1's equip the exact same engine. The difference is in their propeller: the 1A/C/D have the later paddle prop, while the -1 is modeled with the toothpick.
Slade, keep in mind the F4U-1 carries more total fuel than the 1D, however the 1D has a higher dry weight, and also loses performance from the pylons. These pylons are permanently fixed to the wings.

Same engine, but I'm pretty sure their are minor adjustments from the 1 to the 1d.

You probably notice less roll inertia in the F4U-1 compared to the -1D with 25% fuel loaded. The hardpoints on the F4U-1D add weight and roll inertia to the wings. However the F4U-1 has wing tanks that hold about 500 lbs of fuel so with full fuel the F4U-1 has more roll inertia than the F4U-1D. In other words the F4U-1 should feel more responsive when both are light on fuel and the F4U-1D should feel more responsive when they are both full fuel.

That's certainly something else to keep in mind: At 25% fuel the F4U-1 only has fuel in its main tanks, not in the wings. You don't start getting fuel in the wing tanks until you load 75% fuel (about 25% in each wing).
