Whenever I up a PT Boat I notice the radar antenna spinning hard at work. How about letting us see the PT radar screen when we up one.
-
FYI it was surface to surface radar on PT's.
-
Use PTs to hunt for CVs then? PT can finally have some purpose other than cannon fodder when the carrier dies :)
Have it so if you get within a certain range of an enemy cv it shows up on the map.

This....
plus does the PT enjoy the same icon status as GV's?

I sorta like this idea.

What kind of radar is on the PT boat we have? The early SCR-517A or one of the later SO type radars?
ack-ack

:O Has this ever happened before!! Not that I recall! :old:

Yes, one other time. Two weeks later Hitech was getting hate mail because it wasn't in the game yet. :D
-
It's not in the game yet. What's up with that?!

this idea sounds awesome and would make for more reasons to use the Croc of the OCEAN! :D

The one that worked. DUH

I remember a suggestion where Hitech essentially said, "Rats. I just finished the next update. It's too late to include this."
Not only was it a good idea, it was one that was easy to code. And it did show up in the next update.
So Hitech does read these wishes, he just doesn't normally comment.

Can't say as I blame him much, the current state of the wishlist crowd, by and large (self included, even).

I agree, but I think if he did post more and whether the storm so to speak it would get easier. Right now everyone would be all over any post he made whether they agreed or didn't and all the "whys" involved, but I think over time people would finally get the idea he knows what he is talking about and understand the whys of what he does. Then the posting would calm down.
If people could just accept the answers given we might get more answers.

My guess is that HTC values the wish list and pays attention to it. They are smart enough to know that the next great idea could easily come from the thousands of players instead inside their office. Thats why the wish list exists.
Keep in mind that a lot of the wishes are either just plain bad, have unintended consequences or don't fit the direction they are taking the game. Our job is to throw stuff at the wall. If its meant to stick, it will. If its a bad idea, bad timing, too complex, etc, etc, etc...I don't need HTC spending time explaining why my wish isn't happening.

I would like to see a Range finder/sight for the Torps....

Wonder if this was something he was meaning to get back to and was too busy growing the game.

Or he was putzing around with a new radar system alltogether :devil

IF anything for the pt make it this!

+1 - kind of how a PBY would work in the arena - a mobile surface radar that would allow all in that country to see what they would see on the surface. If enemy ships show up, it should also show up on the clipboard of everyone in the country ...
... no different than it would be broadcasted out to all in-air pilots from the CAC centre in WWII - were they would take their chess-like-map and put an enemy ship on the board and move it to the position reported and then announced out over the air or via secure channel message.
I.e. ALL AIRMEN ALL AIRMEN. STOP. ENEMY CONVOY SPOTTED. STOP. LAT 41°24'12.2"NORTH 2°10'26.5"EAST AT 1315 ZULU HEADING EAST SOUTH EAST 20 KNOTS. STOP. REPORT UPDATES TO COMBAT AIR CONTROL IF SPOTTED. STOP.
That is how it would be broadcasted out in WWII... in Aces High...it should just appear as one of the enemy colors on the map and perhaps pulse to indicate a radar feed?
Hitech - most PTs were fitted with Raytheon SO radar - all had about a 17 nm range.

How about if each CV had 8 PT spawns surrounding the CV? give the PT boats different places to start.

This is not a bad idea.
I also vote for allowing LTVs to spawn wherever PTS spawn

Why just have dar work on PT's when all the ships in a task group have it? Is the cv the only one that has surface to air?
-
An aiming device for the rockets would be nice. I'm usually almost out by the time I'm on target.

I don't think the SO surface search radars were able to pick out air contacts. In any event, for air threats the primary detection system used by PT Boats were the Mark I I-Ball coupled with a binocular. The SO radar was also used primarily at night for navigation and to locate Japanese shipping.

I hope you meant Mark I Eyeball. The way you wrote it, I first read it as Mark II ball, which just brings too many off-the-wall thoughts to mind. (Rubber ball? B.A.L.L., an acronym for some type of navigation device?....)

The way I would see the PT Boat radar working (and keeping in line how the SO and SO-3 type radars worked) is they'd be able to detect any ships within range (20-23 nautical miles) and then the ships (CV task force) would show up on the 'dar map as a base icon, like how the base icons appear on the map. The PT boats would not detect aircraft since they didn't carry surface to air radar in real life.
-
Think I would go with a RL implementation.
PT boat captain can see it on his FE and radios it in on channel.
Whilst the PT has used boat borne radar the CV has no more been detected than if it were over flown by an AC.
