Just a spitball, but maybe before the new game comes out, the AH team or whoever could look into the possibility of making gunsights get damaged in the game, but only applies to planes that carry secondary gunsights(i.e. the p40c, p40e, p47d11, d25, basically any plane with a secondary means of homing in on the target).
But there should be a certain way as to how it gets damaged. If a certain pilot manages to hit the cockpit well enough(say some MG's or a 20mm cannon shot), or at a certain angle of attack, the main pipper would be rendered inoperable, but the pilot will still be able to use its secondary sights for targeting their enemy.
It doesn't mean that you have to be PW'ed in order to ensure the hits, but like I said, only at an angle, or well-placed hits will do the trick. This will only apply to planes with secondary means of targeting your opponent.
Also, it would be cool for planes with adjustable gunsights, such as the A6M's, I-16, Ki-43(I think), etc. to be put to good use in case the main pipper goes out of action, too.

If a round was able to "damage" the gunsight, the pilot had secondary problems from the shrapnel that precluded anything but flying home, bailing, or he was blind and bleeding to death. The flip over iron sights or posts on the German Revi and Japanese copies was there for two reasons. Shot out electrical, or more often, light bulb failure. Same with all other countries.
If gunsights got shot out enough in WW2, Korea and Viet Nam for this wish to be possible, gunsights would not have been constructed as vulnerable and un-armored as we see them. The N9 and Mk8 Mod20\21 were used up to Viet Nam including the N9 in attack Helo.
A better gunsight wish would be for an on\off toggle to display the reticle along with a dimmer toggle and a check box in each plane's convergence setup to turn on\off tracers.

how bout a better damage model so i can take out your power to your gunsight :devil

That is the subject for it's own wish.
If you hold fire to only sub 400. You really don't need a gunsight in this game. Even with no tracers. And again, by the time you have shot up that wiring in the cockpit or the source of it in the fuselage, the pilot has other problems. HiTech kind of generalizes all of that damage like our bullet rounds are kind of generalized.
