Those are $15,000 a pop, but they will only sell in large lots (100+). No, I'm not joking.

I'm curious, what's the market for that? If we had more than 100 full cockpit A-10 simulators in the nation built to the fidelty that warrants a $15,000 stick, I would be truly surprised!

It's cheaper to build simulators than it is to put airplanes in the air. The same is true for armor, which is why training bases have so many armor sims.

Oh, I get that for sure, but I didn't think there were THAT many simulators for these aircraft out there. I know Kingsville has something like 10 T-45 Sims, NASNI has only two E-2/C-2 sims, and something like 8 SH-60 sims IIRC.

Supply vs demand. I'm sure they'd build fewer units, but for a higher cost (arbitrary example: $45k a unit instead of $15k). From what I understand, they deal primarily with military and .gov sales. Again, from what I know, they build this stuff on-demand, so it's not like they have a huge stock of it. Everything is milled from the same (or equivalent) materials as specified in the TDP for each aircraft, so it's expensive and time-intensive to produce.
Remember that while the upfront may even be higher than the real aircraft (as is the case with many FTD's), the lifetime cost is usually much lower and the lifetime of the product itself may actually be longer than the real thing.

If they charge the military 15k a stick on batches of 100 they probably cost around 100 bucks a piece to build ;)
A bit like $60 Haliburton plastic dinner plate in Iraq. Which many used double to protect the fingers from the heat :)
