Title: Call from my bank re the Grammy Awards.
Post by: Curval on January 12, 2015, 10:27:27 AM
So, this morning I get into the office and decide that it is far too early to start work and go get a coffee at the shop across the street.

When I get back to my desk I see that I have a v-mail waiting.  The message is from one of the banks here that we have an account with so I immediately call them back.

The call went something like this:

HIM:  "Hello Mr. XXXXXX.  My name is XXXX XXXX and I am calling from XXXX Bank.  Do you recall that we had a promotion/contest over the Holiday period?"

ME:  "Ummm, kind of.  Something about spending $100 on the credit card"

HIM:  "Yes, that's it.  I am calling to let you know that you have won the Grand Prize and to give you our congratulations.  You have won a VIP "Red Carpet" experience at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles next month"

ME:  lol  "Yea, sure.  (checking to ensure I dialed a local number)

HIM:  "I understand you are hesitant, this is a major prize, but it is real.  MasterCard will need to contact you and I need an email address and day-time contact number where you can be reached"

ME:  "Well, it is best that you call my wife.  She handles our social calendar"  (To get him off the phone)

HIM:  "I have already spoken to her actually, she refused to even talk to me"

ME:  lol (wtg wifey!  "That's my girl."

HIM:  "Mr. XXXXXX if I could just have an email address and the contact number?"

ME:  "Look, I think this is a scam.  You have my home number if you called my wife, use that.  As to email, use this:  (gave him a web mail account I rarely use)

HIM:  "Thank you very much, MasterCard will be in touch very soon and we will need you to sign some affidavits in due course.  Congratulations on behalf of the Bank."

I hang up and call my wife.  Sure enough this guy had called her and sure enough she assumed, as I did, that it was all a scam.  I asked her to call our relationship manager just to check and we hung up.  I didn't think about it again until she called me back about a half an hour later.

Turns out it is genuine!!!!

I am in absolute shock.  I don't ever win ANYTHING normally.  But, we have one an all expenses paid round trip to Los Angeles and this VIP Red Carpet experience.  No idea what that means but it sure sounds good.

Now I have to have a meeting with my kids and get them to show me who is who and what songs they sing.  I have no idea these days...lol.

Don't need to rent, I got sick and tired of doing that and bit the bullet and bought one.  Worn it twice since (2 years ago)...this is a great reason to wear it again.  :)

This is what we should look like:

I think they will be providing the limo, we'll see.  But I agree, a once in a lifetime thing.  If they don't I will rent one.

Lol you could pass off as Humphrey Bogart in a wax cabinet in that tux. All you need is a nasty chain smoking habit and false teeth now. :P

Your wife looks gorgeous in that blue dress.

I do smoke (sadly  :( ) and although I have not had dentures many of my teeth have been replaced.  (I'm technically British...lol)

Bogart huh?  I can live with that.  :)

Thanks for the wife comments MrRip and Coppehed.  She is an awesome wife and mom.

Thanks all.

MasterCard have now been in contact and now that I have sent in the necessary forms they will soon be announcing all the winners.  I won for the South American/Latin American/Caribbean and Bermuda Region.  There are a bunch of other winners from other regions.

I never even actually entered this myself, I did absolutely nothing.  But if you have a Platinum Visa or Black MasterCard card every $100 purchase made automatically entered people into this thing.  We run all our household expenses through the card, mostly for air miles.

My wife's birthday is today, she is a happy girl.  I managed to give her a present I could never have given under normal circumstances.  :)

I thought you were kidding but turns out they ARE actually playing.

Madonna too.

All we need now is the Rolling Stones to make an appearance.  Geriatric Grammys!  :)  To be fair though I saw the Stones Live when they did the Licks Tour and watching Jagger made me feel old and tired back then.

They have sent me an itinerary.  I can't post page one because it has a bunch of contact numbers etc on it and I shouldn't divulge that stuff, but here is page 2:

What an AMAZING trip.

Here's a couple of pics, still trying to consolidate and organize all the vids and pics.  Just got back home last night.

My wife and Taylor Swift at the Clive Davis party:

Did they help get you guys dressed or did you have to find tux/gown yourselves?  I'd have to get help in that area...

See page 1.....my wife bought a dress that she wore on the Saturday night but had the blue one.  I bought my Tux before the event we attended a couple of years back when that picture was taken.  I did pick up an extra Tux shirt though.
