Title: Microsoft Paint
Post by: Someguy63 on January 12, 2015, 05:37:24 PM
How do I take multiple picture files from the Internet, and make a collage of the photos I want to use into Microsoft Paint? I have no idea how to do it, except in Microsoft Word. The problem is that I absolutely cannot use Microsoft Word to do this collage, since the collage would not upload correctly to the site I want, and I believe Paint has to be used.

Anyone know how to do this?

Paint is extremely limited in functionality. Could you use a free 'extended' paint called paint.net? http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

For an image collage the easiest tool is most likely powerpoint - or the free equivalent libreoffice impress. You can download a free full office suit http://www.libreoffice.org/

Older versions of Paint Shop Pro (6 thru 10) are relatively cheap and so a job like that with EASE.

http://www.gimp.org/

Best free graphics program out there. Almost on the same level as Photoshop.

Yep Gimp is great especially if you get the 'gimpshop' version which imitates the photoshop user interface. I suggested Paint because that's what he wanted to use for some reason.

You can do it in Paint, too, with some restrictions. Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net/) is MUCH more versatile for the job and it's free. IMO it's easier to use than GIMP or even gimpshop especially if you're relatively inexperienced (like I am).

The biggest restriction in using Paint is that it doesn't use Layers. That means that if you'd want to move the fourth last photo, you'd have to undo all of the steps you've done after that. And the number of undoable steps is quite low, 10 or so IIRC. Using layers you can choose any picture from the stack and change it as much as you want, in any phase of the project until you've merged them all as one. You can even save a project in progress instead of finishing the collage at once.
