Title: Who knows about 3D Printers?
Post by: BoilerDown on January 15, 2015, 10:03:34 AM
Who here knows things about the current state of 3D printers for consumers and hobbyists?

I'm interested in getting one and this is my motivation: http://www.deltathrottle.com

Obviously I'm not getting it just for the Delta Throttle, I've been thinking about getting a 3D Printer for a while.  But I think the Delta Throttle is my "killer app".

Anyone have some advice about the current models on the market?  There's a huge range of prices for printers that seemingly have similar capabilities.  I was reading reviews on CNet and their reviewer didn't like on that costs $2500 for example, but really liked one that costs only $800, and I got the feeling it would have been that way if they're priced the same.  I plan to do due diligence but I'd like a good bit of starting knowledge to base my decisions on.

Thanks!

Well, no one responded, but after reading everything I could find, I ended up going with the Lulzbot Mini:

The clincher for me was it being able to handle far more material types out of the box than the ABS and PLA that are the two kinds most 3d printers can do.  It just arrived and I'm unpacking it; should be up and printing soon.

I am curious to hear your observations as well as the material(s) you are using and how they stack up (not a pun,..really,...honest).
