It won't hurt but it's not actually necessary to do so. It depends how long you had your computer running prior to starting AH and how many different programs you ran during that time.
I don't use my windows pc:s for anything but playing games so they're always freshly booted when I start any game.

Some other 3d games screw up your computer, for example after playing Starcraft, I can not get into the arena before I reboot the pc.

Now that is interesting.

I have to leave logging in to AH after playing Elite for a bit :old:

I find that if I reboot my Win 7 machine, I end up with fewer background gizmos running.
Also, before I fly AH, I run ("as admin") the following batch script to shut down selected stuff that my general-purpose PC runs. I don't - yet! - have a dedicated gaming machine that I can keep away from the rest of the family. ;)

You could permanently disable many of those processes (depending how many things you do on your windows computer) for example do you ever send faxes through windows? Does anybody use fax anymore?

You obviously have not been saddled with the need to deal with American medical insurance companies, you lucky dog! ;)

Yeah we have socialized medical care. No need to mess with insurances - a hospital day is 30 bucks, doctors visit 30 bucks once per year, following visits are 'free'. I also have a medical insurance for private side but I never found use for it so far.
Sounds nasty if you have to mess with faxes in 2015

I don't reboot my computer before playing AH.
I don't reboot my computer (or even turn it off) very often at all. I just have it go into hybrid sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity.

If it works, good. I prefer turning my computer off when I know it won't be used in several hours and rebooting especially before a scenario. This behaviour is based on my experience on both my own and my customers' computers. Quite so often I get a call from some diligent elderly person who can't get his/her computer up and running, only giving some fan hum and a black screen. The obvious culprit is some fault in Windows' ability to recover from sleep or hibernation and is easily cured by forcing the computer to power off by pushing the power button down for five seconds.
Why I like to reboot before playing is simply to reset my computer. Recently I noticed that Windows Live Mail starts two services which can't be shut down in the Task Manager. Or actually, they can be shut down but they'll pop immediately back. But they stay away after a reboot. I also like to check for antivirus updates at that point to prevent them from automatically using my net at a less suitable moment. Simple enough, and gives me the necessary exercise in the form of walking to the bathroom and back, making a pit stop at the refrigerator on my way back.

Ive found out that the best exercise during gaming is to drink beer from small cans, forces me to run the stairs down and back up every 10 minutes :P
