:t Subs played a very important role in both theaters. Generate a random spawn point 3 to 4 miles from a CV group, give the captain only a sonar scope, a periscope and 10 torpedoes. Let the dedicated hunt the unwary. The smaller destroyer could have some ASW gear. My father commanded the Skipjack # 585 so I got dibs on that name.

<S> Pops Welcome to the boards
That's one wish that has been made quite a few times by players here It hasn't been ruled out. ( correct me if I'm wrong guys but for some reason I remember Hitech saying that his dad was a submariner)
Maybe some day in the future
Bet your Pop had some pretty good stories :aok
:salute

Hitech's (owner and designer of the game) father was a submariner and he has said he would love to add subs at some point.
-
Subs would be nice but we'd have to add or change some things about the tasks groups we have now.
At the speed they move in game any type of WW2 sub would only have one run at a task group, if intercepted correctly.
-
I find this will be boring for submarine drivers. I just think it will take forever driving around under the sea looking for something thats within miles.
-
I can imagine that the sea level is a base reference for lots in the game so having a new base of whatever depth say 300m lower might be needed. The independent destroyer and depth charges would indeed add something new to accompany a submarine. But in the end the sub would only be any good for ambush raids due to the speed of the fleets, so I can see that is going to be a tough one to implement no matter how much support it gets. The anti-submarine aircraft should not be forgotten either. - One day perhaps, certainly worth wishing for.

if subs were added, only the small type subs of japan, germany and italy should be added.....for a good reason.besides limiting amount of torps... you could up a small sub anywhere you could up a pt boat(from a base only-not a cv) and you could hunt a cv near a base. you would probably have more than one attack as the cv would probably go back an forth a few times out of the shore battery range/arc of fire(field of fire). and so the sub would work. it should however be visible when it is at torpedo depth under the water, and be able to be sunk by depth charges. depth charges would have to be added to cv's.pt's and plane ords for the job. submarines would have to surface to recharge batteries and get oxygen every so often...say every 1 hour, even if it has to surface for 1 minute....that would be enough time to kill it with normal guns...or something like that.
-
They would add another dimension to the game play.
I think the challenge is to integrate them so they are not used as mega sea borne spawn campers agin fleets.
If they are enabled from PT spawns then I guess we would see them used this way ( imagine 10 subs launched in one mission) or see every " boat hanger" destroyed as fleets approach so they are not used at all or very rarely.
Unlike gv's subs would be long range sea borne hunters..... Working alone.....Trick is how to do this without stuff getting boring.... The mission profile would be more like a long range bomber based mission.
I guess we could make it work by adding extremely hardened sub pens at ports and then perk subs ( think ME 163) with their own deep water spawn points. Players could then set way points ( as per fleets now). When fully submerged ( below periscope depth) the sub travels at 4 times normal speed (to reduce boredom) unless enemy fleet is within a given range. When at periscope depth or surfaced the sub travels at its rated speed.

Smart sub driver would position his boat close to enemy ports. Imagine if a country could cover all the enemy ports? They would be hated and hunted relentlessly :old:
-
Add a depth charge payload to the B24 as well if added +1
-
Or add a PBY and Swordfish along with the boat!
-
There are already subs ingame!
Check out the ports in the TA,you will see them at the docks!

There should be an accomplishment for bailing and landing your pilot on the deck of the sub docked at the ports in the MA. Wonder if there is an Easter egg kind of thing hidden there.....
