What's the deal with the whole "Two Weeks" thing.... :)

Anyone with a free two week trial will be gone in two weeks and will not be around to worry about whatever they are asking for.
-
Not sure exactly when or where it came from. But the first time I heard it was in reference to the release of "Combat Tour" 05'-06' maybe.
-
It's a joke because HTC usually announces new updates (such as planes) two weeks before they are released.
-
then the two weeks turns into months or never happening
-
2 weeks goes back to even Air Warriors. Nobody from management will give a date/time for anything. Releases, updates, even just bits of news have always been released "when they were ready". So everyone and there brother has ALWAYS asked "when is blah blah blah?" and so the answer has always been 2 weeks.

I put "Two Weeks" into google.
First hit:

Maybe we could take up a collection and send HTC a CD/DVD/download (or whatever kids use these days)
(Notice were she is in the end. Maybe a sign that Subs are in our future!)

The first usage I am aware of that relates to this being the standard answer for how long until something is done was in the movie "The Money Pit". Tom Hanks charachter purchases a house and it goes all wrong from there. Every repair request was to take two weeks.
A very funny movie. :aok
-
I also think it's reference to Money Pit, and I remember it being widely used back in 1997 in Warbirds. So i'm guessing AW beginings somewhere....
-
I also think it's reference to Money Pit, . . .
That is my guess as well. "Two weeks" was a running gag during the whole movie.

It goes back a lot further then you think. Programmers started to answer this way shortly after computers came into existence. To come to understand why would require more time in working projects then you know. Projects are always begun with unclear requirements (they change too), the programmer must also continue to work on previous projects, the level of completion is not clear (define "done"), and pride always makes a programmer promise something sooner than possible anyway. So, it's probably something that has been around ever since engineers came into being. So, blame whoever made the wheel.

"two weeks"

"you sound like a little bird there 2 weeks 2 weeks"
You guys can find the youtube cut
