Hello
I used to play AH since 2004 until 2009 (before that i played Warbirds) but had to stop playing because of real life issues.
finally I have some extra free time in my hands and i still have a warm place in my heart for WW2 History, aerial warfare and planes in particular.
I've been scrolling in the boards (even found my old account) and really got "the itch" to give the game another go.
i would like to hear your opinions about certain aspects of the game
- what are the numbers in the main arena (is it still the main arena?) in European prime time, midweek and weekends?
are there scenarios in European "Friendly" times?
system requirements, is the "Recommended System" in http://www.hitechcreations.com/gameinfo/gameinfo-minimumreq (http://www.hitechcreations.com/gameinfo/gameinfo-minimumreq) enough\overqualified? I'm currently working from a laptop.
how is the gameplay now days? squads, teamwork, flying tactical vs furballing and mindless hording? (hope I'm not touching a sensitive issue ;))
anyways it is nice to see some old names, it brings up nice old memories
-
The numbers in the main arena are higher than any other flight sim's online arena.
Laptops will need at least 512MB dedicated memory for the new graphics version. Check main page for pics.
Game play is the same as always. If you're new you think it's great. Once you can duel you may think it's stale and boring and everyone else is "doing it wrong".

Long time flyboy, nice to see you.
Game is same as the time you left: hording, moaning etc... :D
Eurotimezone players number has dropped a lot :cry, nowadays i and most of us finns play weekends.
-
The download is still free. Download the game and run it off lime to see if your laptop runs it.
As for the arenas, it's only $15 to run for a month. Drop in and check it out!

At this very moment, 127 players on Ozkansas.
Generally the numbers at euro prime go from 90 to about 160 players in the Late War arena during euro primetime. EW ranges from 0 to 5, MW about 5 to 10 players during the same time. AvA & WW1 are generally empty, DA mostly is empty as well.
Weekend numbers for the LW arena can be as much as 50% higher during Euro prime.
"Euro friendly" do happen on a regular base.

Look at what happens when you quit thinking about it:
former player thinking of coming back
former player coming back
Thinking is over rated.

I remember you Flyboy, glad you're thinking of returning. Quite a few "old timers" are returning to the fold. :salute

Come on back and give it a go!
-
as i said, its nice to see familiar names :)
pjk, TC, good to know you are still around! (TC, i see the KOTHs are still running)
i cant run the game on my laptop, need to get a proper PC and stick first
can the technical guys say what they think about the "recommended system", also a recommendation for a system that could run the game in the highest detail?
-
How much you wanna spend?

:airplane: Good grief, just do it :airplane:

Hello Flyboy, it has been a long time.
I used to play AH on a 14" dell laptop. Most modern laptop with an Nvidia card (mine was Nvidia/Intel dual chip) can run AH on reduced, yet playable settings. The new AH (now in alpha) will shift a lot of the processing power from the CPU to the GPU, so a good card will be even more important and CPU less so. On the brighter side it means that performance will generally be better. I have a new desktop with a moderate 130$ graphic card and a moderate i5 processor and I run AH at nearly max settings - the difference in visual quality is worlds apart.
Try it offline and play with the settings. Try lower details and lower texture resolutions.
I hope to see in online soon. :salute

You would be most welcome!

I've been thinking of coming back as well, I haven't played in probably 7 or 8 years. Surprised I even remembered my login information.

Hey man, long time no see
-
I remember a film where Flyboy drug a couple of bad guys out over the water and told them on 200/1? that he was going to kill them both and he did.

Ha, I've also been contemplating jumping back in, must be all this snow....
I'm about to buy a new gaming rig.... so I've been holding off to see what the new iteration of AH will require.
Hopefully I'll have my answer in two weeks.... :lol
I like the new additions of vehicles since I've been out... 4 years now.... sheesh.

To be Honest I prolly Have the worst computer in the Aces High community.

I can say from experience ...just came back a couple months ago after being gone since 2006-2007 ..... It is incredibly fun to get back into the saddle . Your gunnery will prolly suck for awhile , as mine still does , but the ACM part comes back much faster. Seeing past friends that are still playing is an added bonus aswell.
-
thanks for the kind words, it sure helps to make the "right" decision ;)
unfortunately it will take me longer then i expected to get up and running
a stick, PC, decent internet connection and even a proper table are still missing but im working on it and hopefully will see you soon online :)
just need you to be gentle in the start, i bet it will take some time to de-rust those years
-
Take advantage of the training arena. With damage off you spend less time returning to the fight and more time practicing. You also get the lead computing gunsight training aid to help develop the proper sight picture.

Yes, the table is the tricky part to get right.
Though I hear the Swedish scientists from the IKEA laboratories have made a great breakthrough in table technology.

Flyboy.....
I missed you !!!! :x :x :x :x
Come back...
Also for last months I wasn't online (see my PM) I'm coming back soon.
Few words...
1. Scenarios are European friendly and still the best ones (even without the old good 101 that used to be) I flew Battle of Britain and War at Pacific - both were amazing ones - I flew both as squadron leader. Last scenario missed due to personal reasons.
2. Sunday European Compains (SEC) are very nice and regular evens also not very crowded. You meantioned KOTH - as good as it was.
3. This day is WW2 is nice as well.
BTW Doc is still around.
In comparison to old days AvA rarely has players at European time and there no more European time snapshots, but SEC fill the role in a different way very werll.
Come back - AH is still great and its events one of the best ever.
