Title: 2015 Ford Mustang?
Post by: flight17 on February 12, 2015, 07:43:38 PM
Ok, so I am not really a car person mechanically speaking, but I have been looking at them as a possibility later in the year depending on how the new job continues to go... (but I really have my eyes set on a Beech C-45, so the stang might be a few more years in the making...)

But anyways, was looking on Ford's site between the various models.

How is the 2.3L doing on the market? I was sort of surprised to see that the ecoboost engine puts out more power than the V6 as well as a higher torque rating, so what is the pro/cons of each? To my uninformed mind, it seems that the 2.3L would be the way to go and that the V6 would be obsolete, but obviously that must not be the case since it is still being offered...

Saw that as well.

But my biggest peeve with the V6 right now, is it is only being offered as the lowest base model of the mustang. There is no premium V6 package.

I'm considering an Ecoboost as a project car.  I had an SVO long long ago, and it's part nostalgia and part "brain", I really like what I"ve seen and read so far about it.

A couple of good reviews.

And a good review of a tuned Ecoboost.

And check this short one out, racing LS powered GM cars.  A completely stock Ecoboost with software only tuning - upped it over 70 horsepower to the wheels.  Stock tires as well, and it was running 12.50s pretty consistently.  That is amazing for a US made 4 banger.

I'm going to wait for a good used one I think and try it pick it up with the higher trim levels (as the OP said, the V6 doesn't offer some of the Ecoboost trim options) for a good deal, high 20s up here in Canada with say 20k miles on it, and then do a lot of mods, tuning to get it to around 315 whp, and then some aftermarket parts and turbo mods to get it close to 375whp.  Should pull high 11s or very low 12s with stock tires, be a great little sleeper 4 banger car.
