Title: Stupid News Headlines thread.
Post by: FLOOB on February 13, 2015, 09:19:18 AM
I'll start off. I find yahoo is a good source of stupid headlines.

Lead singer on Foreigner's staying power

This made me laugh. Apparently not having a hit song in the last 35 years is power.

Headline translation: Bet you didn't know these guys are still alive and performing.

I think the most famous ones from the British press are probably....

"Freddie Starr ate my hampster" - The Sun circa 1985

&

"London bus found on moon" - The Sport circa 1990

here's a gem from the page:

This post just shows how young and naive you are. Make a list of the "bands" and I'll use that term VERY loosely here, and in 35 years see if they can still run a concert series like “THE SOUNDTRACK OF SUMMER” tour and command $50-$75 a seat. Just because YOU don't know/like them doesn't make the head line funny.

Oh come on, be thankful that "finally someone [in the media] is being held to account for misleading us about" that conflict.   :x :x :x

On a more serious note, it turns out that the older we get the better we remember/recall our own past distant events.  Events are remembered more sharply, more vividly and with a much greater sense of accuracy.  The issue is, that almost all of the time, the further back the events and the more often we tell our stories, the more inaccurate our stories can become!  It can get to the point where only a few anchor points in the story are true, the content and ending of our recollections can have little if anything to do with what happened.  And again, we become more emphatic as time goes by.

Apparently men have more of an inclination to do this than women.  Figures.

I think that when people find themselves being challenged, if the challenge is credible, they should correct themselves and the record.  I call those people mistaken.  The ones who refuse, can be called worse, but think about it - do you want to call an 80 year old a liar?  :old:
