Title: My WW2 grandfather has passed
Post by: USRanger on February 18, 2015, 02:37:43 PM
I'd like to share a link to his obituary.  He was a helluva guy.  My father passed when I was a baby, so my grandfather was that father figure for me growing up.  I'd appreciate it if you'd take the time to read about him, my war hero.

:salute For your grandfather for living a long life, USRanger.

They seem to go so quickly and they always remind us that growing older is not for sissies.

Thank you all very much.  As the only two men in our semi-large family, we had a good bond.  A "We gotta stick together brother" pact against all the women in our family.  Thank you all again for the kind words. :salute

Now he can join his buddies back on the USS Stormes

My condolences.   :salute

Both of my grandfathers were in their early 20's when they went of to WWII (DOB's: D.M. "Bud" Gray in 1917 and R. W. Bennett in 1919), if your late g'pa was born in 1928, he went off to war at the age of 15-17??? I know some of the guys who went ashore in June 1944 were younger than 18, but I was under the impression that as the way went on the enlistment requirements were more stringent. Either way, kudos to him and his service.   :salute
