I had a chat in FB with a close friend of mine about the problems with texting while driving.. She didn't see it as a real problem till I posted a few pictures of an accident I had...
The kid was 16 years old and he was texting while driving and he ended up in a precarious situation..
I was traveling northbound on i-85 in NC around the 8 mile marker when I felt a slight jerk .. i looked out the passengers side and I saw nothing... I looked out the drivers side and saw this, as I was driving 65 miles and hour. It took me 650 ft to come to a complete stop.. I got out and he had already exited the vehicle unhurt.

Thankfully he did not have any passengers in his vehicle as they would be seriously hurt or worse..

One of the things I can say is the kid was honest and told the trooper he was texting and driving, so i have to give him kudos for that. If it wasn't for the fact that he severed both air lines on the trailer I may have rolled right over the top of him, with a possibility of killing him and rolling my truck.
Whats funny I posted this in cdllife.com FB page and I got pm'd by a couple of safety supervisors to have permission to use the pictures in safety slide shows. I also got pmed by a couple of driving instructors too. I told them all if you can use it to at least save one life, take them.
So for all you people who think you can text and drive... just remember this.. 3 seconds is all it took for this to happen.. if you have a youngster show him/her what can happen. This kid was 16 and the last text he sent was to his girlfriend... I WILL BE THERE SHORTLY.. he almost wasn't there..

"slight jerk" says it all for me. Real world physics.

I think the best graphic advert would be that broken smart phone covered in blood laying on the car floor of the screaming trauma patient we were extracting. No tire marks on the road either. :embarrassed:

I took a defensive driving course a bit back and they had some REALLY good videos in it about texting and driving, this was one of them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgyTBYjc0j8
and a slow down video as well

these are kinda graphic but good for people to see how important it is to not text and leave a bit earlier
Dang the guy in that car is lucky to be alive :O

That's my daily life Homersipes :( Makes you appreciate life but also scared for your wife/kids.

Ya know I recall reading in a thread, recent one at that, someone saying they were driving when they saw something posted in that thread and nearly crashed, twice.
Probably should bring this thread to his attention.
What was your gross LawnDart, load included?

Gross weight was just over 65,000 lbs. What saved the kid was he popped both air lines to the trailer in such as locking the trailer tires from rolling.

That could've been really bad. God was watching over that kid.

Saw this posted a few years ago. Gets the point across. Supposedly based on a real incident.
