What exactly is the method behind our auto flak? I've never been much for HQ raiding, but I've really been noticing it with CV's lately; I can't figure out how it prioritizes targets.
Also, I've long ago noticed that you cannot dodge the auto flak. Are the bursts just spawned in around you? Or is HTC using bullet magnetism. I real hope it's not the latter, as that would be far more arcade-ey than I would like.

Auto puffy ack works as follows:
As soon you get into range and are above 3k the ack will target you. The bursts do indeed appear magically around your plane (no actual shells flying) within an imaginary box. The size of this box, and thus lethality, is depending on your flight state, speed and maneuvering (G-load). The slower and more steady you8 fly, the smaller this box gets in which the bursts appear.
If several targets are in range, the puffy ack will prioritize them by distance and type, bombers will be targeted more likely than fighters.
Two things should be noted: There is no line of sight check or something like that, in some rare cases you can get targeted by puffy ack when behind a mountain for example. And second, bomber drones are by some unknown reason (glitch? bug?) immune to puffy ack, only the lead bomber gets hit.
Small (non-puffy) auto ack actually aims and shoots at you. Both types of ack never aim at friendlies, but you can get damaged or even killed if you get in their way.

Also, if you are in a 262, you will be PK'd the first burst before you know you are anywhere near a CV.
-
That... seems archaic. Is there any chance they might update the flak system along with the graphics, since they're already working on a big and fairly fundamental part of the game?

:rofl We've been asking this for a decade and I feel like crying now

Gastropod is mostly right though a bit off. The faster and more Gs you are pulling, the more likely you are to getting drilled at 30k, beyond icon range by the very first burst....at least that is my story and I'm sticking to it.

For me it doesn't matter how fast or slow I'm going, what G-loading, what plane, nothing. Ack will PW or oil me first puff all the time, every time. I've since been just avoiding CV's all together. If there's a CV nearby I will not up anywhere near that fight.

And if it's a friendly CV, it's auto ack will set your 262 a light with in the first few bursts.

If it's been a noted problem for a decade... Why haven't they fixed it? I mean don't get me wrong, I love all of the content we've had added.
But I'd much rather see new flak systems, rather than say the A6M3 and a mossie bomber, or whatever we got with it.

quoted fir truth, I really hope the core gameplay gets a pass in the ongoing relooking of the game

There is much more to the upcoming update than a new graphics and terrain engine.

Shhhhhhsh....then what would they have to cry about in the forums?????

How we are told it works, and how we see it work are very different.
Slow lumbering bombers flying straight at 270 mph may get some damage, but rarely destroyed by auto puffy. Fighters flying at 400 mph, jinxing and turning get splod'ed instantly.
The only time I have ever made it to a CV to drop a bomb was when several cons were attempting same, and some of them were blown out of the sky on the way down.
Like Latrobe, I don't fight around CV's if I can help it.
-
:airplane: I fight around CV ack all the time, for me the key is low and slow fighing CV aircraft. Anything under 2k auto ack won't engage you. :salute
-
I'm not sure about the auto ak (yellow tracers) but staying below 3000' above sea level will keep you out of the CV puffy ak.

After reading your post I went an looked, yes there is a bug causing this.

Oh god, I really hope the big guy is joking.

I expect skyrocketing B-29 losses over the City in the future
With the current bug, my B-29 loss rate to auto puffy over the City/old industrial complex was at about 3.3% (or about one bomber every 10 missions with formation)
Now that the chance of losing one should about triple, things are going to be more interesting :aok

...and more historically accurate... :(

I honestly swear I've lost drones over a CV. No kill awarded to anyone. :headscratch: When I've lost a drone over a cv, it was from someone in the 5" guns (I would see the kill msg in text). Only twice do I recall not seeing anything in the text buffer after losing a drone. :headscratch:

Well, I for one welcome this. :) Except the losing of B-29's. That I won't welcome as much. lol

I'd be very interested to see the results of that and if the rate really does triple. :aok

I'd like to see the bomber drone warp fixed. There's gotta be a better way to handle the lead bomber's maneuvers.

it's entirely possible that the gunner's gun got destroyed before your drone died, he exited the gun, etc.

no true. the other day a base was being hit by 2 CVs 1 from due east 1 for SW every time id cross 3K id get scared but i never got hit by it. I only killed 3 but i caused the death of many. we played a little dope on a rope and everyone bit on my 262 :)
