There's been a lot of talk lately about "stale gameplay" and issues we would like to see fixed, that we feel are contributing to the low player count. I have found myself flying less and less over the past few months, even considering letting my account lapse. I've tried different approaches in the MA, flying different planes, giving myself daily goals and missions to accomplish, even spending some time in the MID and EARLY arenas. But it just wasn't cutting it. I went into the DA tonite, and it was the same ole BS, people just lookin for easy kills, picking you while you're engaged, etc.etc.
Until I noticed a small group in the Canyons. I joined in, and let me tell you... It was the most fun I've had in MONTHS ! the few players quickly grew to about 20 players, almost all on the same VOX, laughing, joking, and KILLING each other. They are there every Tuesday night (as will I be from now on)
I think we need more events like this. There were a few ideas about other events we'd like to do passed around, and I hope some of them come to pass.
If you're thinking about quitting, come join in on some of this stuff, or better yet.. create your own. I've seen "operation Kill the Krab" on one of Latrobe's videos, that looked like a hell of a lot of fun. But I never got a chance to take part. It would be nice if planners of these events could announce them in all the arenas, like the special event hosts do !

Nice thing is they are there every Tuesday! Great bunch to fly with...

I can understand after so many years with nothing new while watching the whole gaming industry explode you kinda loose interest.
Too bad HTC couldn't do a little more over the years. As for me I'll always be content wi th the game until I get like you old farts.
-
What I'm worried is that the graphics update is the death rattle of AH. You gotta figure that if things don't pick up, at some point, registration is going to drop below the line of profitability, and HTC is going to close it down.
-
This game is awesome :)
Game!
I have i offered my advice to AH in regards to business and thus so far have had no feedback.
Someone informed me that the "Zack cannot be trusted with a blunt spoon" was over heard. :cry

Zack rules. :old:

Thank you for posting this naugty. I described about 3 days ago in the post about furball islands that there are many other aspects to AH besides the MA that make this game very exciting. I even mentioned that small rooms with 8-20 people will give you an exorbant amount of fun. All it takes is a lil looking around and trying out different rooms.
I wish others in AH would give this a whirl so that #s could pick up for these types of AH activities. The MA is not the only place to find awesome furballs!!
While the main argument is a limited social aspect that seperates you from your bros, many need to break out of their shells and find different parts to AH that suit their fun experience in AH. If you get like 15 of your bros into one room, the excitement level will skyrocket.
Hopefully with the new update, many more people will join AH and many of the rooms will start to expand their player bases. I wish that one day the AvA will blow up, as to me that is the most fun, challenging, realistic (besides FSO- to an extent) fights you can find in the game. The bases are closer and the maps always work. This arena is great fun with only 8-12 people. I couldnt even imagine what 30 people would be like.
So get out there people and experience many parts of the game that you haven't tried yet, and you never know, it could be the best fun you've had all month!!
-
I don't want to hijack this into another the game is dying because... conversation but I'm noticing the return of many former players and many new ones.
Thanks Naughty for pointing out the canyon fights...sounds like fun!

Us Menacing Ferrets often end our squad nights (Mon/Thu) with a trip to the death canyon. I think from now on, we'll broadcast our intent on the public channel and see if anyone else wants to join in. There's no better way to practice your ACM. I just wish they'd turn the ragwings on in there so we could go Great War once in awhile.

What I have been looking for . Thanks for posting .

I'm just basically waiting on the graphics update I'm hoping that it will rekindle my interest in the game, if not I'm going uninstall it and look or something else after 12 years the games just got stale.

This is one of the topics we were discussing. I believe Etec was going to talk to one of the guys who do Special events and see if this could be done as one.

just curious to find out why you think the graphics update will kill the game? do you have access to some stuff we dont?

Just checked...I have stats all the way back as far as they are kept in the "score" section. :old: That's 15 years. I was amazed. It was great to see old names like AKCurly, Mandoble, Shamus, etc. Guys I haven`t seen in years.
I guess they found the game stale before I did.
I too have reached that point finding the game more of an irritant than a fun competition; and I know a bunch of graphics eye candy with the upcoming update isn't going to change that. I would probably need to spend a bunch for a computer that would run it anyway :rofl
So, good health to everyone (who knows, I might be back next winter)

There's been a lot of speculation that the Update will require Newer, more powerful machines, or atleast video cards. It appears A majority of the current players are on a shoe string budget, most barely able to scrape up an extra $15 a month for a game. there has been a lot of concern that update will make the game unplayable on their current rigs, or atleast put them at a major disadvantage.
I currently play on a bone stock HP pavilion 23. I get pretty decent performance at about 3/4 settings. Am I willing to invest hundreds of $$ into a machine to continue playing ? :headscratch: I just don't know. I can afford to, but can I justify it ?
anyway... for now it's just speculation, we wont know anything until the Alpha guys tells us different, or until the release.

The new graphics will likely require more powerful computers to run it. As a student, that's money I just don't have.
Additionally, this seems like their bid to draw in more players. Likely the update will be followed by an advertising campaign. If it fails to achieve the desired results, I suspect that this will be the last major update we have. We may get a few more content updates while they decided final disposition of the game, and what to do next, but I find it unlikely that they will continue betting the house on a single slowly dying horse.

Ah! Please allow me to perform a valuable function, by answering your question!
Yes! Of course you can justify it!
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but we watched for months...years, perhaps....as people on these boards said that the reason AH was losing people was because the graphics were out of date. Now people are complaining that up-to-date graphics will make AH lose people? There is no pleasing the crowd.

I think HT should make a price drop when the new update comes out as part of a advertising campaign . Like $9.99 ? I think they would get a few more people to stay around if they did ,

I don't know about everyone on here. I just recently started playing again. I never really got into it in the first place, but I know this is the best that there is out there.
The freedom of AH is unmatched. I can fly what I want when I want against others doing the same. Wanna fly a Mustang to shoot a Brewster? Go ahead. Wanna bomb the bejeebus out of a town? Do it. Drive a tank? Man a battleship gun? WW1? Dive bomb? Capture fields? Strategize? Knock yourself out.
The scale of AH is unmatched. 600 people capacity in a single arena is no small thing. And we have more than one arena. What we do as individuals makes a real difference in the outcome of the war. That is the key to the scale of AH. Other games are just games. Death matches or capture the flag. Other games fight battles. We fight wars.
AH Community is the best I have ever seen. And i have seen a lot (World of Tanks, WOW, World of Warplanes, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Trek Online, SWTOR, EVE). We have a hardcore group of people that will answer questions and offer help to people like me. Just ask. I am talking about combat pilots, engineers, history buffs (me), and anybody else that has any interest in what AH represents.
TLDR Read it. Read it all. Add to it. Aces High is the best. Bar none. :salute

<S> for getting it!
Once we fill the arenas again, trust me it will be craziness like you never seen.

If you can run AH now with decent frame rates, you should be able to run the new version without any problems.

+1 :aok

I think a free month or two with an advertising push would help. Get them hooked, keep them around long enough to learn the basics. Then they pay. :D

A longer experience promotion is something I tend to agree with as well.
-
If anything is stale, it's the players doing the same thing over and over expecting a miracle to give them a more fun experience rather than trying new things.
-

Or they could make the training arena free :aok
Hear me out on this, just a spitball: The current way is that the new player gets two weeks automatically free w/no strings attached. But they wouldn't be able to find the time or the money to use it properly(school, work, etc.). By the time the new player finally makes time, their two weeks are up, and have to pay to learn how to fly, fight, voice/text comms, the essentials to play AH, and that kinda demoralizes the new person, therefore making the decision to go to other games that can meet their needs(War Thunder, WoT, WoWP, etc.), making AH look bad.
If the training arena was opened up freely to new players without the need to limit it to a number of days, weeks, whatever...this way, new players would be able to find time not only to learn the basics of flight simulation in AH, but also interact with one another and know what it's like to have fun, maybe even look to join up with known squads BEFORE they get into the arenas and events. Then, once they've mastered the fundamentals and scooped up enough money for each month, then they pay to enter the arenas to play with the big dogs.
That's just my thoughts on the matter.
-

Aha, now there's an interesting idea. :airplane:

games not stale, the individual player might be though.

Agree , most of the real good pilot's don't seem to stick around long . Like take Grizz form the AOM , I think he is the best the game has ever seen but they all seem to move on so something wrong here , money ? Time ? Game getting old ?

Being able to club everyone in game probably gets boring after awhile. This is a game which you get next to nothing for being good at. They probably move on to stuff that doesn't bore them anymore.
-
Ive seen 700 + players online years back, we cant seem to break 400.
Something is wrong

Maybe why you don't see many AOM on anymore and the ones that are , are not Grizz . Some come close but not . Anyone that can make a 100 kill run in a 262 is a top player .

I just recently played a single game where I flew an F4U-1,fully loaded with fuel, for several sectors while tracking a bogie and achieved altitude of about 27K...and the bogie turned out to be a single B-29 which I shot down in combat.
I did not film this sortie...I wish I had.
What was curious to me was the B-29 pilot's response to being shot down by a 27K F4U-1; his comment was something like...BS! No way you could catch me up here doing 324 mph! I think he was correct, IF, he had maintained his altitude and speed, but since I was climbing, the only way that I could have caught him was if he reduced his speed to engage me in combat from his guns...and he lost that battle.
Never underestimate the F4U, high, or low.
OH! And by the way, he called me out on channel 200 and said I only had one star and no kills! I "lol'd" and said something like; score says it all. You'd think that after 12 years I'd know how to kill a high flying B-29 who slows his speed so that I can catch him? What? He slowed down? Well, yes, figure the problem out...
if he is flying level at 27+K at 324 mph, how can my climbing F4U-1 catch and shoot him down without him slowing his speed allowing me to catch him and get within gun range?
If he has film, I'd love to see it!

F4U1s go fast as hell at that alt. You could have caught him all day long. Don't let fools like that get to you. They normally have no idea what they are talking about.
