It's highly unstable and usually sits at around half this speed while losing connection to the DNS server constantly.  :(

I moved my home completely to LTE wireless. I got a Cat6 LTE router (Huawei E5186) Works great even though we do not even get advanced LTE yet (when it comes I expect my speeds to exceed 250Mbit/s), I get totally flat net line in AH and even in fps shooters the performance is better than with my old 16/1 DSL line. The DSL was nothing but trouble I hated it.

My home connection.  Yep, wireless, as the only other option is AT&T and they will NEVER get a nickle from me as long as I live.  Never have any trouble streaming Netflix, and that is about as intense as it gets in my home, for Internet usage.

This what I get with my home  bundle pkg about 100$+tax month includes cable tv and home phone from Cogeco, I can get faster internet if I pay more;   I have my cell phone from US with Verizon and the wireless is way faster , I can't run a cell test because i'm home today and use phone option only and WIFI here in Canada, they charge roaming for internet; 2 years ago i forgot data ON after I crossed border from Detroit to Windsor, for 2 days and got 1300$ roaming bill . Be careful with cellphones data when you get out of provider range :)

Ping to server is usually from 60-150 depending on time and day.
72$ a month for this, because it's rural MN.

I did not think that the host is in Dallas.  Is it?

However, I think that your idea of running the test to the host city location is actually a better way to measure rates.

Just giving you a bit of a hard time.     :devil

I did not know what plans were available in NZ.

Here in the states there is no effective competition so speeds are what they are (low compared to you guys) and prices are high.   :furious

We pay about $60 a month for 30MB down and 1.5MB up. :cry :cry :cry

You guys have such low prices with high performance rates that Ahhhhhhhhhhh.     :cry :cry

Are those data caps on the plans?   Do they charge you for going over?  They are slowly rolling out caps here in the US.  Comcast I think has plans for a 500GB cap.  A lot more than you guys (if I am reading your rates correctly), but I would image that at your data rates it would be a lot easier to hit caps than for us to do the same.   :old:

Title: Re: Speedtest results, again
Post by: ghi on March 16, 2015, 09:21:18 AM
I found this server in Ft.Worth, 1000 miles away, I get about same;
what makes bad gamming connection? high ping right? is mine 50 ms, ok?

just found this;  "Latency is the delay (ping time) in milliseconds that it takes the signal to travel to the server and back. The lower the number the better, but you'll definitely want a ping time of under 120 ms or you'll have major problems with online gaming. Ideally you want less than 75 ms ping to the gaming server. "

Bruv nails me all the time with 140 ping, cuz travels ahead in time  few milliseconds, by the time I see him I'm dead meat;  :rofl

This is on a cell phone connection "personal hotspot" also going to my laptop through wifi.

It's a little slower when tethered to my desktop with the apple lightning cable but these "scores" don't tell you the whole picture or give any insight into your gaming performance.

Nobody has ever complained of me warping and I often stay connected even when half the arena get's a mass disco.

The "network status" and other information within the game never show more than a very flat line with very little variation.

I played 1.5 years on a blackberry with nearly 400ms ping and the game still worked well since it was written when modems were common.

The only downside to the 400ms ping was me seeing guys maneuvers around 1/4 to 1/2 second after they were performed but the current 60ms ping made staying with maneuvering fighters much easier.

The reason I have no troubles with warping whether on my former 400ms blackberry or the current 60ms iPhone is how unbelievably consistent the data is .............which is what the game prefers over blinding speed/wait/blinding speed/wait found in many "lightning fast" cable connections.

I had to disable LTE which slowed down the throughput and introduced "cable like" waits so 4g seems to work best.

I'm also pretty sure that this speedtest only shows the best ping.

There are far better tools out there to check your ping, ping consistency, lost packets, and other data and even the simple command prompt has plenty of commands/command line arguments that can tell you far more than you would imagine.

Some of you here could probably benefit from checking further than this simple speed test which tells us next to nothing about what is really going on with our connection.

I myself am on $99 per month no cap...the no cap thing is only recent..last year or two... I use ultra fast broadband..hmmmmmm...over copper as I don't have fiber to my area yet...
When we did have caps they just dropped you down to dialup unless you paid for more in 10 Gb packs.. ( when you have early teenagers getting on steam and setting themselves up as a sever wellllll...it was sweet for me though..I still got to play my game  :lol.

Doesn't count if it's not to Ft Worth. :)

That is a very solid upgrade though. :aok

Any greybeards remember the transition from 300bps to 9600bps then to ludicrous speed? The time frame from mans first powered flight to his landing on the moon is very similar. A very slow start and then BAM!

(Alcohol tends to increase the WOW factor when thinking of such things)

I go in at 9600 when it first came out.  Trying to remember next was 13.2k, then 52k?

The Internet provider at that time is still around offering the 52k but is small business now.  They used to be very arrogant when they were the only provider.

Taking that task - here is the result.  Not too bad actually - much better than my old DSL anschluss.  Slighter better ping too

I remember using external 1200 baud modem for the 1-800# bbs's then amazed when I found a 9600 baud cheap

That is a solid ping there.  I get around 130-150 myself when connecting to EU servers on Euro Truck Simulator 2 Multiplayer (I choose the EU server due to numbers. :D).  Really not as bad as some folks think. :)

Yeah, I'm not complaining. :D  I pay it a few months ahead.  When my July bill comes, I'll be upping my net.  Hope they have 300 by then, but at the very least it will be upped to 200. :aok

This is using rural satellite internet. At the moment it is 9am local time with partly cloudy skies. What do I win?

I hope to soon upgrade to cable internet when I move closer to town. Here are my options:
1) Residential - 16 Mbps (download) / 2.0 Mbps (upload) for $45 per month with cable
2) Enhanced - 25 Mbps (download) / 2.5 Mbps (upload) for $79 per month with cable
3) Turbo - 50 Mbps (download) / 3.0 Mbps (upload) for $130 per month with cable

No Ping ratings in the description. No small wonder that I usually end up in the tower or fatally damaged before I even know I'm being engaged. Regardless of what I pick (and that will be Residential), this will be the fastest internet I've ever had in my 10 years of online gaming...
