Title: The Gadget Race
Post by: craz07 on March 23, 2015, 02:43:31 PM
Why is it that the the human race always has to devise some new way to destroy itself, be it by a new technology that destroys or orverdevelops the planet, some ideological new movement that supports it, or some new nuclear or rocket powered weapon of mass destruction.  This planet is supposedly improving everyday when all I see are new developments in order to further destroy it.  We are losing this planet faster than we can reclaim it tell me I'm wrong please.

No one wants to confront it and say something, They'd rather melt away in ignorance than make a stand against certain destruction of this planet

Cowards would rather put it on their children then acutallly make a difference or some serious changes before it reaches the next generaterion, pitiful if you ask me..

Your wrong. The main nuclear powers have vastly smaller arsenals then we did at the height of the cold War. The USA and Russia have about 1/6'th the strategically deliverable weapons as we both had at the hottest part of the Cold War. I was in USAF when we had 4 different classes of ICBMs alone. In fact I was at a base when a damn Titan-ll ICBM blew up.

Theater weapons are vastly cut down too. We once had thousands of nuclear artillery shells, IRBMs, cruise missiles, recoiless rifle nukes, nukes for air defense, nukes for submarine defense. We once had 2,500 Bombers tasked for nuclear attack. Many of them on hot pads and able to launch in just a few minutes. And who knows how many Jabos in Europe we had tasked for nuclear delivery with bombs like the B-61. It was awful, most of all to those who had to man and protect these assets.

Whatever North Korea or places like Iran do today it couldnt come close to the sheer destructive power the West and the Soviets pointed at each other back in the bad old days, along with BTW chem and Bio weapons. The main powers gave them up BTW as well and France and England only retain a nuclear option in small SLBM fleets.

Boy if you think today is bad you never saw the '60s, '70s, or '80s.

ok rich if you say so, i see it on the the news everyday, i see more and more vehicles on the road everyday, i see the polar ice caps shrinking, i see way too much that outweighs the direction we should be going

I think the height of doomsday machine technology was Project Pluto back in the day. A Mach 3+ cruise missile with an unshielded nuclear reactor crisscrossing enemy territory. Flying around for months just irradiating everything in its path. A flying Fukushima.

A more personal question to you Craz07 is why you think life is bitter and sad (according to your sig)?

You seem to be suffering from some sort of anxiety. You should visit a healthcare professional. Seriously. Your writing sounds severely depressed.

Remember that if you look at long term heat charts, earth is on a natural rising heat trend. In a few decades the natural cycle goes again towards the cold and in a thousand years or so it will be another mini ice-age again. That will spell famine for all of the undeveloped world (if such a thing exists then).

Last time there were mini ice ages, every time wars broke when people started to starve. We're better off in a hotter climate.

I am getting anxiety medication but honestly where do u see the future of this planet in 50 years... because maybe i maybe negative but this planet is filled with vehicles, tehcnolgy, un-recyclable things that make you think things are just getting worse for future generations.  Its just a dialogue at this point but better than nothing.

The future of the human species is very bright unless something extraordinary happens. The world as a whole is twice as rich as it was 20 years ago. North-America and Europe has seen an increase in wealth of about 45%, but the developing world is where most of the progress is being made. Countries like Brazil and India have trippeled their economies. China's economy is seven times what it was 20 years ago. Education is getting better everywhere as well, and despite the continued problems in the Middle East, social progress in the Muslim world is making leaps and bounds over what they used to 20 years ago. The world is growing up faster than any previous time in history. Such growth can be painful at times, but I see the world in 50 years as a much better place. Unless something extraordinary happens.

idk man the current coming-to-age generation is the first in... maybe ever in America to begin to prefer public transport to having a car (at least the urban portion of it)
there's nothing wrong with technology necessary, and new technology is constantly getting more ecologically conscious. photovoltaic cells are getting increasingly efficient
rate of change in global demand for oil plateaued recently, contributing to the collapse in oil prices
i can't think of a time I'd rather live
Things are pretty neat and getting neater

Take a Xanax and relax. Change what you can and accept what you cant. Even better, buy guns. Lotsa guns.

This impression causing you to freak is the fault of instant information technology. We are bombarded with the crap instantly and nothing "sells" like the negative. Nothing is happening that didnt happen more in the past, were just hearing about it. Or hearing about it faster. So just chill out and ammo up should the balloon ever go up. Its out of your hands anyway so why worry about it?

Can't say I'm really proud at where we are as a planet at this point, nothing is geared toward sustainability, just more more industry, the more the better..  it's getting to the point where we're going to wear out our welcome with with all our great ideas.. oh and i will take a xanax and relax, that will probably help with the situation more..

Im no braver then anyone else. Ive just accepted the fact there is only so much I can do in this life. Ive taught, or tried to, young Police that the most important thing they can do has nothing to do with crime ; The most important thing is to leave people thinking there is Hope and that somebody gives a damn about them. Take the time out to listen to them and try and help them and make them feel there are elements in the system that will do so. None of the dangerous people you catch in a career means anything compared to that.

We are supposed to be our brothers keeper. If your down about stuff then volunteer to coach or maybe be a scout Leader. Something around those lines. The years I spent coaching kids in 3 different sports were very rewarding to me.

"People" are both the reason and the cure for you craz.

For whatever reason the OP is reaching out to others. Many people don't have the patience or orientation to see past how the OP makes them feel, and not return some of the same that is making them feel out of sorts with his post.

You are not going to change him and solve his problem by the end of this series of exchanges. But, you can choose how you add to his burden or not add to it. He appears to be heavily laden.

I've learned that the key to happiness is giving less of a diddly about things that aren't very important or I can't do anything about. Also having traveled to some of the real toejamholes in the world I've learned to appreciate what I've got.

I remember a quote that went something like this: Science is a key.  How you use this key is the real question.

The real quote eludes me, and am hoping someone comes along with the proper quote because damn, my googlefu is weak. :(

Its the North Koreans and the lizard people who live inside the earth

There are no conspiracy theories or UFO's in the Gettoe.

The Brewster is to blame for population growth and global warming and Hitler invading New Jersey in 1927

I thought about my statement here and I've come to the position that perhaps I was too harsh.  Given the pitiful amount of funding most jurisdictions provide their educational systems I shouldn't expect much more.

What is happening now is not natural.  We know this because of the gases found in ice cores.

You think you know how the world and nature works?

Yes.

Talk to a credible scientist and, Ceteris paribus, you'll have fairly good idea of what the next 50 - 100 years will bring.

And if you understand what these scientist are saying, you will see that there are steps that we humans can take to change the current path we are on.

.... but I see the world in 50 years as a much better place. Unless something extraordinary happens.

Well if you live in Russia your statement above might turn out to be true.

Current predictions are that in 50 years the bread basket world, America, will have a harvest session pattern very similar to what Russia currently experiences and Russia will equal or exceed the number of harvest days North America currently enjoys.

The economic indicators you cite will melt away and replaced with something very different in 50 years.

For example, in the US, Florida will sink by 50%?  The Outer Banks in NC will disappear.  Coastal flooding will make a significant portion the population to re-locate.

On the bright side we will finally have a North West Passage.  Commercial test runs have already been conducted.   Hey!!!!     :rock   :rock  The Russians are pleased. :x :x

I've read about this project, just when you think mans inhumanity to man could not get any worse, we develop a weapon like that. Thankfully nothing ever came of it.
