Ton of options. The Sennheiser Game One or Game Zero are good in that 200$ range.
It also depends if you want a USB set or a 3.5mm set that plugs into onboard sound plugs or a Sound Card. I would recommend at 80$ish dollar Soundblaster Z card, and some 3.5mm plug headphones and a separate microphone, OR a headset with built in mic like the Sennheisers above. Lots of options.
For 120$ you can get a really good set of Sony Pro MDR headphones, and for another 60$ish a Blue broadcast quality microphone with tripod, and have great sound for under 300$. That or the 200$ option with the Senns and onboard sound is how I would do it.

Any ideas for a guy with $20 to $30?
-
For $20-30 you're not going to get anything good, but you might still find some usable Chinese knockoffs. Try ebay or amazon.
-
Personally I am really enjoying the G35. But it'll cost you around $130. :aok

:rofl :aok So true! :old:
Im lookin to spend around 100 bucks give or take.

Razer Kraken would be a good choice then, but there are many OK gaming headsets available at $99.99.
-
This is what I'd buy on a $100 budget.

Sure, there in fact TONS of great options for around 30$ USD.
Creative Fatality - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX19233 for 30$USD or so
Sennheiser 131 is great, around 35$ USD - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX17162
Corsair Vengance, a couple models from them around 30 to 35ish USD - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX47871
Microsoft Lifechat isn't bad, overseas I got stuck with this as it was the only thing available, and it actually worked very well for the 25$ it cost back then, and it's the same price still - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX42739
That's just a few of the options in that 30$ range, they are from my local Canadian retailer, I didn't have time to hunt through NewEgg USA or whatever, but the prices are in CDN, multiply by around .80 and it'll give you an idea that's close (it's usually even cheaper in the USA). I know the Creative labs unit has gotten great reviews, several sites including PC Gamer give it the nod for the best budget gaming headset. I see them at Staples and other places all the time, so people must buy them. That one or the Sennheiser is what I'd buy if I had a budget build going, or just wanted a good set that didn't break the bank.
Sennheiser has treated me very well over the years, I'm using Sony for phones atm, but usually I use Senns. I had a pair that stopped working well 5 years ago, and they were 2 years old, just over the extra warranty I'd bought, but Sennheiser replaced them with a newer model anyhow, as they were discontinued, and even paid the shipping. Very surprised. I'm not sure if that's changed, or common, but due to quality, and that issue and how the handled it, I'm a customer for life.

I had this set for 3 years until my dumb arse dog decided he wanted the foamies. They aren't bad at all, bought them at wally world for like $35.
-
That Logitech set for the price looks good as well, noise cancelling, good remote - I've always had good luck with Logi in the past, their old 3 button Logitech Wingman mouse was my go-to unit back in the Rainbow6 days of youth, and I wore them out often, being an old roller ball mouse, and they would often fix them up for me when I sent them back in, I always had 2 on the go.

No I don't and the only slot I could put one in would block my Video card fans.

if it was me I would go with a 5.1 usb instead of a 7.1. I have a 7.1 headset that plugs into my sound card and really cant tell the difference when I switch to 5.1.

I thought most PC's has integrated sound cards. I know mine does (I use it ;)).
-
I have a integrated card. I think Semp was asking if I had a dedicated sound card.
-
I used the Plantronics dsp500 for a long time until it died, usb and great clear sound and excellent noise cancelling. This is handy is you have an oscillating fan.
Not ponying up for them now though, so I use the 3.5 mm Plantronics 355 stereo headset now that set me back $20. Again good stereo sound, but if you have a oscillating fan you will need some foam rubber around the mic. Excellent noise cancelling material. Took mine out of my dead Plantronics earphones lol.
-
hardware and software not here :old:
If he had a sound card he would not update the drivers, like his mother board :rofl
5.1 sound card and Kave 5.1
Track IR
And a big chain and padlock for your trashcan :old:

Don't get a corsair vengeance. It will break. And IBTM.

Same experience with the 1500 model (USB wired), and the wireless model run out of power too fast: 4-5 hours, they claim 8-10. And the microphone sucks.
-
I had one. It WILL break. Read some of the reviews. The corsair headset that preceeded the corsair vengeance was awesome, I had it too, but it was not wireless and it had volume control on the wire, this inevitable lead to the wire shorting out. Unfortunately with the corsair vengeance they changed the design of the headset, and even though the headset was wireless the headset itself is designed in a way that it breaks apart and eventually disintegrates within a year. And I had the improved version. I also had a sennheiser headset that failed within a year. Unfortunately it seems, like most gaming gear, if a headset is designed for gaming it is designed to fail in about a year.

Sony MDR MA900 for just $200
http://www.amazon.com/Open-Air-Headphones-MDR-MA900-Japanese-Imports/dp/B007R99S14/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427344533&sr=8-1&keywords=mdr+ma900
(http://cdn.head-fi.org/2/26/263a8fd0_hi-finews_oct12-mdr-ma900.jpeg)
+ Modmic (best gaming mic?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v7f9JuZESM
again, why MA900?
1. super low clamp force
2. super light weight @ 195g (minus cable)
3. very good long term comfort.
4. high-grade metals used - magnesium headband skeleton & aluminum grilles
5. world's biggest headphone driver on the market @ 70mm.
6. impedance matcher so it sounds consistently good wherever you connect it to (iphone, laptop, AV reciever)
7. Very wide soundstage with excellent "imaging" and "center imaging"
8. I own this headphone and I can attest to points 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 :D

I very much like my Koss CS-100's. All of $15. Last me for many years before I need another pair. Decent sound. Quite good mic. Comfortable enough for me.

I ge the feelin I am worrying about this to much. Does AH put out stereo, 5.1 , 7.1? Will a virtual sound system work in AH?
