Amazon Prime for you...........

For some reason I find it thrilling to see naked savages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
It's a soap opera set in the dark ages. Just like "Sons of Anarchy" is a soap opera with Harley dorks.
-
First season was good and then the series turned into The Game of Thrones: Viking Edition.
ack-ack

If anyone is interested in this era, Benard Cornwell has a great series of books that deals with the Ragnar's sons Ubba Ivar and Halfdan. Another historical titbit, Rollo becomes the first duke if Normandy, both William the Conquerer and Robert E Lee are his direct descendants.
-
Love watching it. Just so you know it was made here in Ireland. I tried to get in as an extra but I really can't do the long hair thing. Dammit!

True. But in fairness, isn't Shakespeare as well? Better written dialog surely, but at its heart any different?

Well I got all caught up only to find out that Ragnar et al are taking two weeks off before attacking ghey Pairee. But....a little investigating, and I found that episode up at http://www.history.com/shows/vikings/videos

After all, there are only 36 basic dramatic design patterns. Everything is a derivative of combination of derivatives.

The religious bullcrap is getting on my nerves. At least there are no elves or dragons. Yet.

First season was the grabber... loved it.... Then it was watered down. I Still watch, hoping for a glimpse of the first seasons approach to the show up again.
Don't like how they've moved away from the pilot.
-
Did they really do 'blood wings'?
I love the show, as does my wife.
boo
-
Nah... They did a family friendly version of the blood eagle. It was pretty ridiculous.

Knowing the historical (or quasi-historical) legends that the series is based on is kind of interesting. Even Rollo's eventual fate is touched on in the series.
-
Rollo is not quasi-anything. Spoiler... He ends up marrying Gisela, the Francian princess and founds the Normandy royal linage as Robert I. His real viking nickname was Gange-Rolf (Walking-Rolf) because he was so large no horse could carry him. He was from the west coast of what is now Norway and his real family name was Rognvaldsson. He wasn't Ragnar's brother in real life, and Ragnar raided Paris forty years earlier than Rollo. He served under another Viking leader during the Paris raid in 885. Rollo later tried to take Paris and failed, but that was after conquering and settling Normandy. And yes, Rollo is the great-great-great-grandfather of William the Conqueror, and thus a forefather of the British royal family and through intermarriage all European royal families.
-
I watched the first few episodes and quickly got turned off by the ahistorical histrionics and magic. I found The Americans and I deem it better.
-
I'd honestly call this a "low-magic" series, as any mysticism is generally alluded to rather than accepted at face value. All of the mystic elements could be dismissed as everyday phenomena, with the possible exception of some of the seer's prophecies. Certainly his comments about Rollo are valid, given that we know Rollo's future is indeed quite bright.

I watched it.
I fell asleep when he cut of that blokes foot

They do have dwarfs
You just can't see them

One of my favorite moments last episode was when Rollo and Gisela were looking at each other across the bloody parapets. Maybe not the ideal first date, but at least it wasn't boring.

Lol yeah :D

Well Floki is on bad paper. Which was Ragnar's plan to begin with. Ragnar never forgave Floki for whacking Athelstan and no he's going to pay for it. With the Vikings, my people, stature is everything and Floki was getting to heavy for Ragnar's good. So he gave command to the little weirdo and allowed him to fail. Ragnar fought well, and his son was wounded badly, but Ragnar's main objective was to get rid of the goofy Floki. Even if the puss survives he will be little more then a wormy boat builder.
The stage is set for Ragnar to take Paris and all the glory. Ragnar think 6 moves down the board, and after all the Vikings he sacrifices are only going to a feast and orgy in Valhalla. I bet that English King will pay too. In some way.
Ragnar is a smart mo-fo.

Well there's lots of history-related spoilers about the fate of the king, and of Athelstan's child. :)
-
Who knows. They've already compressed a hundred years or so of history into a decade, and merged numerous historical persons into one character.
-
Lol, the show has already "stretched" history in several ways. It turns out that Ecbert never met that King from Northumbria in actuality nor were they even Kings at the same times in History. I wont say what happens in Paris tho History has already recorded it. Watch the show.
There is a whole lot that isnt written in History, or, written in different accounts. Ecbert has some bad times ahead, even tho he becomes the most powerful King in England first. Maybe Ragnar has something cooking that will geld his power, which actually did happen. I wont say more but I think theres enough "flex" in the recorded history to tell a great story. It was a long time ago and wasnt recorded as well as the Roman period. Ecbert, rightfully, admires the Romans.
-
It's as historical as "Braveheart".

At least they aren't wearing horned helmets. The Scottish didn't wear kilts back then. And when they finally did, they never wore them like that.
