I was gonna nominate myself, but then I realized you weren't talking about beer.
Me too. The other night I was so thirsty that I upped a F4u with 2x1000lb, forgot to raise the undercarriage and started to dogfight a pony in that state. Guess who won? Me of course.
But then when it came the time to land I pressed the gear switch, raised the gear unknowingly and had a ditch

Better than one of 2 options I keep having.
1. landing on the CV during FSO with 6 kills and have the plane roll right off the back for a death... also happens in the MA. I refuse to land on the CV with wheels because of that.
2. Getting a gear shot off with 8 kills and going to land with all your glory, put down the gear to land like a boss and take pretty pictures of your plane after the epic run. Only to touch down, have your plane fall over, wing breaks off, you cant stop, and you roll to the grass with nothing you can do and end up with a ditch....
Sigh :bhead

I had an equally good one last night. Landed with one gear shot off, didn't notice it, about 3 feet from touchdown noticed only one gear light on, touched down, actually dragged the wingtip, firewalled the throttle and got the wing off the ground, lifted off again, raised the gear and went to set it down, but the wingtip drag had pulled me to the left and though I touched down the belly land on concrete, I skidded into the dirt for the ditch. :bhead

The F4U4 in previous times, I don't know if it's the same, but when it first came out, I had to be the king of the ground loop on landing - I barely flew it, but I mean easily more often than not I would have a kill streak on its way to the glory if the hero lights, and I would end up off the runway, broken gear, and I would just sit in disbelief and mentally swearing at my own stupidity.

:O Broken gear on a corsair... Unless they've changed it since the wayback, that's REALLY impressive. About the only thing that seems to take a harder landing than a corsair in my experience is a P38. You can do some truly bizarre things with that plane on landing and not break gear.
Back to the original question from the OP, I'd say most of the people who gun for top scores would have to be pretty 'thirsty'. For attention, squeakers gotta squeak but Manowar and Middy get my vote just because they appear to be adults.

Actually, having 'top scores' give you very little attention, and the little you get is most likely to be very negative. ;)
Well, the question was posed as thirst to be the best as well as attention. I agree with what you say about the attention part, but I think going for top scores requires a commitment that would take a fair bit of motivation if they've decided that's 'being the best'.
Most people that show up to things like KOTH have some level of desire to be good as well.

Is it the squadron that says joining them is the equivalent of a SEAL earning his trident?
I viewed those comments as kind of a Rorschach pattern. People were all likely thinking of the same half-dozen or so people, but it was fun to wait and see which of them was going to crack and get in here first. I could practically hear the draft posts being saved in preparation for their replies and the small straining sound they were unconsciously making as they read each post that didn't mention them.
And you went and got specific! Now it's ruined.

Junky. That's the condition I left your plane in the last dozen times we have crossed paths. Any more excuses, cupcake?
So when are you going to grow a pair and actually go to DA?...you and RuMaL are one in the same, make up a bunch of BS on 200 and here(at least RuMal doesn't blather BS here) but won't back up said talk? Only kill I can remember you have on me was the recent one where you dropped in from 15K to get it, while I was fighting someone else.(Go ahead and post any of are other encounters, because I don't remember any)
All you did was run home afterward...like a scared little puppy.
Lot of Big dog talk coming out of your mouth little doggy.
For a real life pilot, you sure don't know how to play a silly videogame....hope I never end up on a plane your flying.
Come on Vraciu, best of 7 in P51Ds, you win I'll pay your account for 6 months :aok I win, you just stop with your lies of uberness, we all know you don't have any.

As much fun as it would be to shoot you down some more (seven sorties in a row is a tempting offer), I am perfectly content to continue killing you in the MA. Watching your tantrums is worth a lot more than six months free. :rofl
As for winding up on my plane....don't worry, that will never happen. You aren't bright enough to make that much money. :aok

Vraciu - If you beat him I will pay for your sub for 5 years.
I can beat you hands down and he can beat me even harder than I beat you. So, the good thing to do would be to man up and meet him in the DA or STFU.
Game on - man up or I will buy you a nice skirt.
ps. Do not split S and run for your life - it is the DA, man up and fight.

Combat Challenge is a fun competition for me, but really none of it matters since I don't play this video game to seriously become the best virtual pilot I can be. I do feel that this game can become more enjoyable once you've reached a certain skill level, but when you get as good as someone like Grizz it has to end up feeling more like a job at that point.

not to some...that's all that matters...you know numbers are everything ;)
personally I think the MA is practice for FSO :azn:
I always joked I'd like to see a well rounded pilot. For example I've landed over 15 in a scenario, more then 9 in an FSO on multiple occassions, over 9 in Snapshots and over 100 in the Main Arena. Anyone can land 10 if they wanted all day long; but to be able to do it in scenarios/snapshots/fso's each week and almost every week is where it counts.
(my proudest is 9 in a Hurricane during BoB, my least is around 20 in a 262 during a scenario).

Absolutely not. Most MA players would like to. Dew are able to to that at all.
Butcher is right. If you wanted to, you can land 10 kills all day. Most people though just say "It's not possible, I'm not good enough" and leave it at that. They are right though, they aren't good enough... yet, but if you really try hard enough at something and really put your mind to it you can achieve absolutely anything. Most people don't do this though because they either just don't have the free time to put forth such effort or they're lazy and don't want to put forth the effort.
If you really wanted to, anyone can land 10 kills all day in the MA. The only limiting factor is yourself (and running out of planes to kill :) )

I would also agree that the MA matters the least. You have people to bail you out if you're getting your arse handed to you, you have people to help you avoid that in the first place, etc.
Basically, almost every aspect of the MA mitigates the importance your own personal skill at defeating an enemy on your own through maneuvering with the immediate goal of acquiring a gun solution.

Killing people in the MA is about situational Advantage. You could have out numbered him 7:1 in all of those encounters, been higher, faster, and in a lower ENY plane. So that record may not be proof of superior skill level. :salute
that why the DA, which factors out those factors is a better measure skill as a dog fighter. Not trying to pile on. Just sayin' :salute

Maybe we can go to the Training Arena one day and I can show you some tricks. You can show me some tricks in the 109-g14......I can fly the thing really well but i just cant land any hits in the 109's. Me and Krupnski Once had some great fights in the 109-g6 and it went down pretty nice. I picked up the first shots on the maneuvers me did but i just couldn't land a solid hit on him. Then he reversed and 1 ping took me down. Then it went the other way where i landed hits and took him down. I find that when you fly A plane for a certain time the shooting of ur aim tends to pick up quickly. Thats just my opinion. :salute :salute

Yeah man, I just couldn't get the positions I was looking for there, I pulled for the BRD too early both times not thinking you wouldnt be able to pull up so quickly. I thought for sure you'd roll it in or flat spin on the slow roll in the -1, but I realize you have a lot more experience in them. Although, I think in the DA the fights would be a lot closer. That would be a lot of fun. I've been thinking of flying the HOGS more this next tour so the practice would be great.
Also the key to aiming in the 109s is the quick slash deflection shots along with timing your shots with the front cockpit columns. It's not the type of plane to sit on someone's six and spray away. When the plane is about to cross in front of you, time it with the columns and hold the trigger down for 2 seconds in the lead shot. That should help a bit.

Most Ive done in a D9 was 20 while furballing (with a couple of re-arms) But I have to share credit with those friendlies who were flying around me as they saved my arse on numerous occasions during that run. If any are present that remember it I thank you.
Had 1 18 kill run as I was looking to break 20 but busted a gear turning too sharply on landing. Ticked me off too cause my next flight I landed 7.
Most without Re-arming was I think 14. When Im on my game I can have 10 kill runs fairly regularly. I just havent been on my game in a while and have been in something of a slump lately. Particularly aim wise. LOL

10 kills, not vulching or easy picking is pretty hard...especially for the average player. My most memorable run was 8 in a 152 where all the kills were pretty even fights, won a 2v1 where the 2 51s had alt on me. Most of my other high kill runs were the fights where it's like shooting fish in a coffee cup.

56 kills no vulches 3 rearms in a tempest. I need to find that video and post it. In the MA I rarely if ever rearm. I also rarely go looking for the vulch. My record I believe is 7 in a 152. Just right place, right time, right opponents. I've tied that several times, but never beaten it.

Most favored mission for me was upping a P-51 to chase down a person who tends to vulch in 262's and run home; I headed towards the nearest Bish base where I suspected he would "run" too, to my dismiss 5 Me-262's were upping, shot all 5 down - i also got chased down by an La-7, but was out of ammo so I was more then happy with my kills :)

56 kills no vulches 3 rearms in a tempest. I need to find that video and post it. I really dont think that with such low numbers in main that it would be really hard to do a multiple sortie with that many kills. I did a 68 kill sortie that next month but got shot down during the landing by a very pissed la7 guy named shane. He wasn't very happy with me.
Average Player here.. & I just have to respond with.. Oh yeah, Well my wide is sitting 4ft away from me talking to her sister about all .. ahh geez, who knows what they were talking about.. oh & 'Game of Thrones' is on the TV recording so I can watch it later on DVR.. Talk about distractions!!
I landed 2 kills in a P47N.. :joystick:

Got it. Really wish I would have started recording on the first run. I remember some awesome duels with a Niki pilot that started the run. Thanks, brings back the good old times in ah.

i have terrible gunnery so i can get 3-4 before im winchester or bingo. best ive done was a few years back in a duece and had 16. Ive had 14 in the 190F8 as my second best sortie. (Landed)
while not landing i can manage 7-9 with rearms but always get greedy and try for 10 and end up getting that tunnel vision that kills ya.

I put quotation marks around what I think is a Freudian slip! I sure hope it was a slight mistake as D and F are side by side on the KB but if I was you I would buy roses and hope she never sees your little slip....... :devil
