What are the dimentions of the runways and pads on a small airfield?
Im going to build a diorama for chits and giggles. Ive found a bunch of GVs in 1:72 scale as well as AAA to put down so ive decided I want to replicate a small air field. The buildings will be built from scratch im not sure of the materials yet. Any ideas or drafts would be helpful and credit will be given where it is due. I may add your ride with your call sign :salute

I have a draft laying around somewhere from 2004 for a model railroad with airfields and strats... Lemme see if I can find them.

I remember in a FOV thread a post by Skuzzy(i think) said that in AH world scale is not like say a true 1:10 since it is a 3-d like perception view. I was trying to see if it were possible with a big enough screen to have a true size P-38 cockpit dash.
This would not affect your project since absolute, true scale is not your objective I would think, just interesting in how the game sizes things.

A 1/72 airfield would be pretty big.

hmmm nef is right...so the Airfield scale may be different i hadnt thought of that

It's just some math  Put a plane on the runway and take a screen shot looking down. The wing span is a known dimension, this can give you the the width of the runway. From that you can get the length of the runways, from that you can get the square plot as the runways go from corner to corner. Divide each number by 72 to get your scale.
It's that algebra that they said you would never use :devil

IIRC, the base (as an object in the terrain editor) is 1 square mile.

Actually it's the algebra I always said I'd never use! Now I use it all the time.

In 1:72 scale the runway on a small field would be almost 100 feet long :)

My dream model Build would be a 1/72 Us Carrier(s). With a complete air wing. Maybe when i hit the lotto.

Yeah, 1/144 might be better? LoL

im prolly just gonna do it 10ft by 6ft lmao I did the math last night and yea...that wont work at all so 10x6 will have to do which is still huge...:/ so its still subject to change.
