An honest question. I participated in Afrika42 and had a blast, even though I was just a ground pounder in a tank, but there haven't been any since. I don't know the particulars of why or if there are or aren't any scenarios in the works but ...um...inquiring minds ya know :D
What I do know is that there are a ton of AW vets that keept an AW account solely for the scenarios, and the numbers they attracted were fantastic. Those same people are taking a serious look at AH right now but the lack of scenarios on the calendar certanly isn't helping them with their decision to subscribe, that hopefully will be different in the very near future.
Can someone puleese toss me a clue rake?

I kept my Warbirds account for 1 year more just to fly the Sunday evening's Scenarios Lite. The WB MA was boring after 2 years (for me) but actually I *did* enjoy those 2 weekly hours of playing.
The main problem here is the lack of a good early-mid war plane set. This problem is strictly connected to scenarios, the biggest (and most interesting, imho) part of WB SL's were 1940-43 based. However, I believe that HTC will move in that direction soon (could be 2 new early-mid aircraft every 1 late war one).
We only need P-40, Ju87, F4F, A6M2/3, Val, Dauntless, Blenheims, Lagg, more Yak ... Oh My! :)

Mr Larz,
I assure you that there are scenario's in the progress of being created. Also remind you that there are the TOD's and other sunday scenario's that we run. But full grown scenario's are on the way.
You will see :)

One of the current BEST scenarios I've been in, from AW to WB's to AH...is the Tour of Duty currently running. Its a campaign that stretches 3 frames, is squad invite (You apply at TOD page) and walk ons can sign up BEFORE the event via the TOD page.

Want to make a CM's life interesting? Everytime he starts getting a handle on things slip in a major new update that changes terrain, strat system, new features, etc. :)
Scenario's are in the works. Eastern front is planned, but waiting for needed planes. IE stuka, 110, russian bombers.
Staff is currently in the design phase for what could be AH's biggest & best scenario yet. However we need a terrain, preferably one thats 1.08 compliant.
All that takes time.
-
Id like to check out some scenerios, havnet seen any being played as of now. I had a hell of a time in the TOD, ive never had a game give me such a rush as i did when fighting in the tour.
Are the scenerios also one life events?

Yes, exception might be the Check Six events, which typically allow you a life per 30 min. or a "goal" where multiple lives can be used.

I thought you guys had a terrain committee. Have you talked to Nuttz about building you one? I'm sure if ya asked real nice he'd oblige :)

Wow, the last time I was on this board I posted about scenarios, and was assured that the only thing holding up the next multi-frame scenario was the wait *for* 1.08.
Now, I see that the wait is *because* of 1.08.

Then do something that doesn't need the stuka, 110, russian bombers, etc.

Still waiting on the stuff that's 'just around the corner'. Here's a clue--HTC is a great company and stuff will be coming along on a constant basis for a long time. If you keep waiting for the next big thing that's on the way, then you'll *never* have any scenarios.
Sounds wierd, but AW had little or no promise of ever having any improvements made to the game, but had *lots* of scenarios-- created by people who were willing to make do with what they had.
In AH, the people who are making the scenarios just seem (to me) to want to play with the new toys coming out, and don't seem to have much interest in putting out scenarios. If there was *really* interest in scenarios, then there would *be* scenarios.
Damn. Just stop by to see what's going on, since a lot of my Bigweek friends talking about trying out AH. What happens? I start squeaking again.

Believe me, the CM crew are trying to get something done. And there really is no lack of events. The TOD is running just about every week, with a week or two break between tours...
-
One of the things that could be done is to utilize aircraft that are in the current plane sets to simulate what you want to run. It's been done successfuly as far back at 10 years ago in AW. Yes you will offend the "purists" but you will get events going faster.
Let the players who are interested and have the desire to design and run scenarios have some of the first hand experience of what the CM crew has to deal with.
You can recycle proven scenario ideas like DoK GoNzO's Battle of Germany, revamp it a bit to fit the terrain we have in the game today and run it. http://www.cris.com/~Msmiller/AW/scenarios/bog2/bog2_desc.html (http://www.cris.com/~Msmiller/AW/scenarios/bog2/bog2_desc.html)
Scenarios appeal to a lot of players but not nearly all of them. Making mid size to small scenarios that run 6 frames over the course of 2 weeks every few months would help a lot. If the current CM staff doesn't have the manpower to support these events then I'd suggest you start recruiting from the people that really want to see these things go.

Good post and ideas SB.
In the last few years I saved up every scenario write up I could find. Most of DoK's and quite a few of the 1996 on up AW events (untill 1999). A lot of detail and explanations behind the settings and use of aircraft.
DoK consolidated his stuff on a new web page btw.
http://www.gonzoville.com/DoK/index.shtml (http://www.gonzoville.com/DoK/index.shtml)
Nothing beats a DoK scenario. Fletchman and Brooke had real good ones too but DoK is still The King. I hope this info and any I can share could help.
I need a scenario fix....and soon! :)
Westy
p.s. I think it's about time for DoK's MARIANAS scenario to be tried. We have the tools for that one except for a few Japanese planes. If we get the Peggy we can do it even without a Val, Judy or a Betty.

yeah, TOD is really cool when you work on Friday Nights. Lets see a Sunday TOD.
And as I recall thier hasnt been a Sunday event in a while.
I think AN was completley right on in his statement.

AN don't let that door hit you in the bellybutton on the way out. Buh-Bye.
There are great scenarios every Friday night. http://events.simladder.com/tod.php (http://events.simladder.com/tod.php)

MrLars, We also ran a large scale multi-frame scenario in April & May call "Hostile Shores", sorry you missed it. We spent the whole summer organizing the current "Tour of Duty" scenarios that run every Friday night. We are currently planning another large scenario to be run in early December that will recreate the "Big Week" bombing campaign of Feb. 1944.
I agree with you that we don't run enough scenarios for the amount of people we have on the CM team. I'm not going to make excuses or try to give reasons why we haven't held more large scenarios. The way the CM team is organized right now, it is just too inefficient. Pyro and I had a talk recently about the state of the CM team and the state of events, and we agree that there has to be some fundamental changes. What these changes are, I don't know. It's Pyro's game, so I'll find out when he tells me. But I'm guessing that the CM team will not be the exclusive organizers of events in the future.
On a personal level, speaking only for myself, I promised Pyro a year's time as head CM, and my "tour" is up in January. I indicated to him that I never was looking to be a dynasty, so I'll most likely be back to being a just a regular joe AH player by mid-winter. In the 10 months that I've been head CM, I'm lucky to get one night a week to fly AH, the rest of my AH time is spent running the CM team. I took on the job to repay my debt to the flight sim community for those who have created and hosted scenario for me as a player in years past. I wanted to give back to the community what others gave to me when I was in Warbirds back in the late 90's. But a year is enough time for busting my arse. It's time for others, especially guys like ANrky, to step up and put their time where their mouth is and continue to create and run special events.
But in the meantime, I've got work to do. We've got a large scenario coming up, we have three terrains ready for HTC to "bless", we've got another six in the oven, plus another special one for the scenario...the TOD needs some attention...etc.
-
I just joined the CM team.
So far I have worked at writing TOD's. I have written 3 up and only ONE has the proper aircraft to fly it "accurately".
Also, the new terrain editor is needed to get the maps up to date. As banana mentioned there are 3 on the table that HTC needs to give the "ok" on.
There are so many new members to the CM Group that it will take some time to TRAIN everybody and not have a FUBAR'd event.
This community demands accuracy and realism....when I write a TOD that is my mindset. You can easily sub aircraft...but then it becomes a "quake" event that frustrates the majority of the community.
Bottom line is that we are working hard to write up and run events....those who want to critisize are welcome to do so.

Hey, I've offered to help out here several times. If you're not going to accept my help, then you can stop your 'if you're not going to help, then shut up whines'.
Of course, if you're saying that if I don't like it then make a scenario on my own--I can say for sure that that project is something that is beyond my ability, and I'm sure you know that.

Thanks for the info...
Large scale scenarios are what I was looking for info wise...although I'm sure that TOD's are fun, nothing can match the immersion that a large scale scenario gives. Weekley events just don't do it for some :D

While nothing I've seen yet could replace large-scale scenarios, with their private newsgroups (excuse me 'message boards'), the discussion, the planning, the whole scale of it all, the flames, the chance to fly as a team with people you're not used to flying with (even people you've usually flown against), etc....
The TODs are great! They're everything that the AW auto-scenarios should have been, and much, much more. As far as immersion goes, in some ways I think they might even be better than large scale scenarios.

AH has events?

Instead of boosting the CM's, maybe we should boost the aircraft makers. <g> Then the CMs will have more to work with.
Okay, okay... my ploy to get early-war planes and thus a variety of scenarios going. I'll stoop to any level to get Wildcats and Warhawks in here.
-
Six or even just four mid war AC would do wonders for the events we write and design. A Japanese, Russian and German bomber, plus a night fighter would open up a world of new TOD's. :)
Not to mention early war AC which I miss so very much!
A Euro time TOD is going to start soon on Saturday. ;)

I like this guy!
