Quick question:
What is the range for voice transmissions on the range channel? (F12)
-
I always used Icon range
-
Also wondering what the range of the "Range" text channel is as it seems to be a lot further than the voice Range channel.
-
Range chat can only be read by those who took off from the same base as you.

Not true, Range works with Player within your Icon range and somewhat of a distance from you without you seeing their icon. You can up from a different base and meet up within icon range and the range will work.

Are you sure, I seem to remember taking off from a base and winging up with a group that came out of another base and could hear them on range and talk to them.

These is no Range text channel. It's called Room, and can be read by everyone who launched from the same base, regardless of distance.
If the tank guys below you spawned in from a different base, they will never read your warnings about that Tiger written on the Room channel.
Range chat and Room text are two entirely different things.

:salute Thanks, had no idea.

Few do, this is one of the most obscure and confusing features of AH. Took me a while to 'get it' as well :)

Sorry i should've reworded that "Room" chat only works with those who take off from the same base as you

So as not to confuse, by "Room" chat, you mean the text buffer and this discussion was about "Range" one of the two voice features of this game and totally off subject for this discussion.

Ok, clarification time.
There are a number of text channels you can select.
Country: All players on your team see these messages.
Room: Anyone who took off from the same field see these messages.
Squad: Anyone in your squad see these messages.
Help: Anyone in the arena sees these messages. Meant for new players to ask for help in playing the game.
There are more, but these are the basics. More information available at this link:

There are also two voice channels: Range and Tactical.
Tactical can be tuned to a specific channel, and will be heard by anyone in the arena tuned to the same channel.
Range is for all players on your team within a certain range. My question is: What is that range? How far away will another player hear me when I am transmitting on Range channel?

Tactical only broadcasts across all countries for channels 200-299, channels 100-199 are country specific.
As for the range of Range, I want to say 10K? You can hear people who are just outside of icon range so I don't know exactly how far it goes. Probably be easier to determine with the film viewer as it'll list people outside of 6K.

I believe it's a little over Icon range, call it 7K.

Too far when a good spawn camp is set up :rofl :bolt:
-
If anyone really wants to find out the broadcast distance for range vox, set up a custom arena and put friendly icon range to maximum. Get a buddy and start flying, then fly away from each other until you can't hear anymore. If the broadcast distance isn't tied to the icon range, you should still be able to see the icon.

good video for the radio overall.
